I've yet to find such curiosities, simply because they are rare, and I spawned in a forest.

I gave the new system a try, I played for several hours, however, after the initial LP gain from picking anything and everything I saw near me and building/crafting every little thing I could, I was still lacking very much in LP to get skills I needed, or up stats I wanted. Eventually I ended up wandering aimlessly, and going akf numerous times. There's nothing I can gather that I need, except food, the only 2 rabbit skins I butchered were stolen while I was away from my camp and I haven't found another rabbit yet. I can't build a boat to go exploring the waterways, I have no intention of living in the spot I spawned on so I'm not going to build a house yet or start stockpiling resources (which will only force me to need to carry them to the place I determine I want to live). What is there for me to do then?

Well I can offer you this:
Come to me, I got plenty of rabbit furs, I'll give you 10 for a start. As for a boat, I'll built you one and you can sail to wherever it is you want to build your settlement. You can also have some curiosities, since we got a lot of them, we gather them whenever we see them so we don't need to go looking for them when one is burned.

I'm not whining about the system, I'm stating my experience, and reasons for disliking the system. I know little comes from bitching. That is why I'm actually doing something about it: Protesting via deforestation. This accomplishes 3 things, 1, gives me something to do while I wait for my curiosities to burn down, 2, gives me a direction and makes wandering aimlessly more interesting, 3, might even have an impact on development if enough join in on the protest.

As for your protest, I think you could have just ask your neighbors or somebody in the forum here if he/she might help you out with something, like for instance building a boat for you. When you see someone with a boat on a river, holler out and ask her/him if s/he is willing to make a boat building sign for you, you might be surprised how many nice people are running around in the world.
Your protest gives you nothing except the feeling that you are protesting, but it is in no way valuable for the game, it gets you nowhere.
So my offer is standing.

Look problem is not in building. Problem is in scarce resources. Not enough fishes and too big amount of LP needed invested in exploration and basic skills to basicaly start playing.
I have 8 exploration and I have caught 3 fishes and found only one blueberry. Walking around without any goal and searching for stuff that is rare almost as gold ore.
What else have left me to do? I was stealing from neigbours to get some leather, I'm burning curios and getting 3-5k LP per day. Yay.
In previous world if there was nothing to do -> go grind, mine, farm, whatever give u LP.
Now if u don't have enough int -> fuck urself and wait on low lvl and q curios to get LP.
