I honestly wouldn't care if it treated the sliders like the new LP system, where time offline and time online are counted the same. That's not really the point.

The OP is complaining that it's hard for someone who dies to get back their slider values, which as sab already pointed out is HOW IT SHOULD BE. Whether you choose to wait around and do nothing during that time or actually be a productive little Havenite is up to you, but being able to instantly have a fully maximized character after death certainly isn't the right option.
