Re: Idea: Notice Board
I think this would add another level of player to player interaction but if there was a way to "cheat the system" like say a way you can "fabricate" an ear and use that to claim the bounty and I think you would have to go back to the message board and claim the reward but if there was a capture system like with a rope and you could use that that would be nice also although a jail system would have to be implemented and that would seriously PO some players but allow others to survive with three square meals a day jsut enough food to get them through so there would have to be systems for that and that I feel would take away from hnh but the notice board idea is sound and proof of a players death could be say his hand or an ear is also a good system but to come back with no prrof trying to cheat the system? odds are the other player will smeel skullduggery and a fight could ensue

Re: Idea: Notice Board
Very good idea. I like this especially since right now in the game it is very difficult to gather people together to do shit, a notice board could have tasks like "go gather 50 bricks for the village wall" and provide an incentive without requiring a lot of organization from the village leaders. Basically anything that helps people organize better and work with each other is a good thing.

Re: Idea: Notice Board
Well, in EVE Online, players who tend to run 'outside the law' will build up bounties and then scam the system by having a buddy kill and then splitting the bounty. The one big difference between EVE and here, though, is you only lose a ship. Here you lose a significant number of skills and attributes. Outside of pulling a Van Gogh, I don't see any way of 'fabricating' an ear, head, etc. (It could potentially be added into the game, though.)dragonherald wrote:I think this would add another level of player to player interaction but if there was a way to "cheat the system" like say a way you can "fabricate" an ear and use that to claim the bounty
(Looked like some other good thoughts in there, but had a hard time following it. Sentences, please!)

Re: Idea: Notice Board
So people whine once it "SEEMS" to feel like "normal mmos"?
A wanted poster section on a notice board isn't as "quest-like" as a actual quest mechanic.
All people have to do is read it, then post it, like a mini forum.
It doesn't act as a dispenser that dishes out quests.

You can put bounties on random people.MagicManICT wrote:Well, in EVE Online, players who tend to run 'outside the law' will build up bounties and then scam the system by having a buddy kill and then splitting the bounty. tl; dr most of it...ImpalerWrG wrote:Yes its not some pointless NPC quest but I can see ware they are coming from. Putting too much automation of the system leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the potential 'horizon' of possibilities is reduced and meaningful player interactions with it. Think of all that can happen now when everything is done face-2-face, the Ranger might negotiate an advance and then make off with it, or simply lie about having killed the criminal and the bounty offer has their own chances at dirty dealing. Theirs a lot of potential underhandedness now that adds some thrill to it all and makes the successes that do happen all that more rewarding, have you ever seen a Fist full of Dollars, that's the kind of thing that can and should happen in a free form system, under automated systems theirs no need for player trust and relationships anymore cause the rules of the automation is set in stone.sabinati wrote:cobaltjones wrote:The whole parchment/messaging system needs an update, but I don't know if this is it. The "quest" nature of the wanted posters feels really out of character with the rest of the game. Village notices seems reasonable, although I think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be.since these "quests" are set by players and give no LP bonus for completing them i don't see how they are out of theme. since all things in this game beyond the natural world are made by the players, why shouldn't there be quests made by the players? it's not like people don't put up bounties on the forum anyway. these are unique quests, not some npc telling you to go kill 7 of the infinite number of rats that are in his basement. if you fail to see how this is vastly different from 'normal' mmorpgs then there is no hope for you.vikingdragons wrote:I like the signature thing, but the whole wanted system is questing, and quests are for more 'norma;' mmorpgs, not a sandbox game like H&H. but a message board of some kind would be a nice addition, as would being able to have more than 1 line on runestones/parchement.
So while we do need some automation to smooth out the fact players are online for unpredictable and conflicting periods of time their is a point ware it can be too much. I'd rather start small with something like identifiable 'ears' taken from bodies Diablo style which can serve as proof of death if we wanted to make the system less wild-west.
Face it, your scared of losing an advantage of the game with this system in place.
With better communication via boards, means better and more active villages since they will have a goal and jobs.
And it's not too much, because the idea hasn't even been implemented yet, your just being paranoid.
The liars and con artists means players will have to trust each other more and test each other before giving out rewards and assignments.
The idea can innovate other smaller ideas:
- A naming system for you to name your crafted weapons and armors so thievery and items work
- Like you said, human parts could be used as verification of the bounty killed

Re: Idea: Notice Board
to add to all this, the notice board would be great. in a village it could be very usefull in the way of having a piece of parchment that names the members and states their jobs, also you could put maps on their of the village and surrounding area. as for wanted posters, what you could use for that is the ability to 'describe' a person to the parchment where it would come up with their avatar, and when right clicked on it gives you the option to memorize them. and a short description could be given underneath.
all these ideas could work if 3 things are implemented. 1.the ability to "describe" someones image onto a piece of parchment. 2. the ability to write more than one line on parchment, make it like a text box instead. 3. the notice board. i'd imagine that this looks like the OP'S pics but instead of the layout he/she had, when right clicked it would come up with an inventory on like 4x4 or something then you can place a piece of parchment in there then right click to view.
there might also be a mechanism that allows parchment to be re written, though the original text cannot be erased, this might be limited to to the original writer or maybe anyone could change it.

Re: Idea: Notice Board
The wanted poster idea is a bit too flawed, I'd be more than happy to just have a normal notice board and you could still post wanted posters on it without the special request system I suggested, you'd just have to take the rangers word for it that he actually did complete the task and the same for the ranger, that he will actually give him a reward, this would probably be more fun.
Yea it would be cool if whenever you kill a hearthling you get the option to take some kind of random trophy, ear, nose, eye, tooth, scalp, finger and the item would have name of the one it belonged to in the tooltip, could act as evidence for a kill, or you could also do these things when the victim is KO'd leaving him crippled afterward and the ranger can fool the "request" giver.ImpalerWrG wrote: I'd rather start small with something like identifiable 'ears' taken from bodies Diablo style which can serve as proof of death if we wanted to make the system less wild-west.

collecting ear or equivalent from dead player would be fine, as long as scents confirmed it and the trophy itself had no valuewickerman_156 wrote:Yea it would be cool if whenever you kill a hearthling you get the option to take some kind of random trophy, ear, nose, eye, tooth, scalp, finger and the item would have name of the one it belonged to in the tooltip, could act as evidence for a kill, or you could also do these things when the victim is KO'd leaving him crippled afterward and the ranger can fool the "request" giver.ImpalerWrG wrote:I'd rather start small with something like identifiable 'ears' taken from bodies Diablo style which can serve as proof of death if we wanted to make the system less wild-west.
however collecting such a trophy from KO player would render the mechanic useless
