Something to ponder

Post by Argus »

There's a little bit of RL politics mixed in with this post. You've been warned.

So! Eternal newb (but never a scrub) Argus, Watchful Master of All He Surveys (a palisaded enclave in the forest, with no visitors), has been pondering something. When I login, I find I have several things to take care of:

1) Check the chicken coop (I've been grabbing eggs for use in chicken salad)
2) Harvest and replant to keep the beehive cycling
3) Convert plant fibres into linen cloth for use
4) Grind wheat seeds into flour for baking
5) Bake goods
6) Check tanning tubs, drying racks, and herb table
7) Check mental inventory

And this is all before I even go outside the palisade to fish, hunt, or forage.

Now, I don't know about some of you, but every now and then I hear some idjit blathering about how we need to 'turn back the clock' with modern technology. Usually this is tied into global warming, er, climate change. And nowadays, every time I hear it I think of all the tasks I have to do upon login, and I want to ask them if they've played HnH and understand the hard work that goes into medieval-era farming, with no modern agricultural conveniences. My guess is 'no'.

It's still a fun game, though. :)

It would appear that your eloquent and insightful post has gone over the heads of the general purveyors of this forums, regrettably this is the state of things and while one could wish for a modicum of class and intellectual commentary, this sadly can not be. Or as someone else put thus quaintly, "When I dream, I want a pony."

Having personally been raised on a farm by a neighbour while my parents worked 9 to 5 jobs assembling server hubs or designing whiteware solutions (between sitting through municipal council meetings) I can summarize my thoughts regarding these so called technological rewinders.

"Fuck you and the high horse you rode in on you throwback windbag, go live with the Amish for a week if you think eating grits is the hot shit."

But beyond that, I respect his opinion and his right to voice them. However damnfool retarded they may be. Thank you for your attention.

the op didn't actually use any words people don't understand, it's just that it is not exactly clear what he is saying. we have to guess what is meant.

also cajoes.... english is my 4th language and even i understand everything you said. don't treat others like idiots when you make yourself look like an idiot doing it.

The only odd part was that I've never heard anyone seriously suggest Luddism in response to pollution/global warming/etc.

neither have I but I understand where the OP is coming from. that kind of stuff is hard work in real life, and even today that work takes effort and time.
