there are players besides miners that might appreciate a functional trading system. and its not just one metal!

And they can simply trade with miners face to face to get the initial coin stock.

Look, the main problem with virtual currency is that it's tied to characters, which means you can lose a lot of wealth instantly. Get killed, bam, all your favours gone. The stand owner stops restocking, bam, all your favours useless. With physical coins at least you can never lose all your wealth, and if the coins are valued realistically (ie the exact real value of 1/100 of a bar) you can't lose any wealth like that. You can have it stolen however, which isn't a case with virtual currency, but I think that's actually a good thing. But yeah, the risky nature of virtual currency means they can never have the kind of customer trust that real currency can, and trust is what makes or break currencies.

That seems reasonable, if avoidable. Your scenario has you saving up a large number of favors for whatever reason. Why would this be the case again? It's certainly not intended, as shown by my example.

I still don't like this dependency on copper, tin, iron and steel. For most players, that "initial coin stock" just never happens. vendor stands going unused is why barter stands were implemented in the first place

Aside from the typical screwball that shows up in these suggestions, does the rest of the OP look alright or have I forgotten something?

haha yea i wish :x

when the subject of coins comes up in officer chat there is too much whining about bronze steeds

im not sure how a purely metalbased economy would be preferable to credit anyways! guess markets without those metals are shit out of luck huh?

what, that's why bronze coins are perfect... you can melt excess into steeds so you don't have to worry about metal from outside sources fuckin with your coin:goods ratio.

so are we ever going to get some coins or are we going to continue listening to the guys shooting the idea down every time it comes up?

i originally suggested bronze since it is a hard metal that we dont have to worry about turning into steel

even with bronze coins in use, is there any advantage to making vending stands at all?
