Nah, it's real. I caught him on that island and decided to waste some time trying to capture him. I don't know if you can actually attack him or not (I know there was an old thread where some Sodom guys caught him and killed him, but I believe that was a jorb spawned one and not a wild one), so I just watched him struggle for a bit before moving along my way. He's probably despawned by now.
