Saw a locked thread by Yoji, It got locked for having multiple ideas, But there was one I consider particularly noteworthy
Being able to unlock your inventory and allow others to view them would be particularly nice same with mental inventories and currently equipped items, Someone posed the idea that you could merely punch out the person in question, and check, this leaves scents, and carries a risk of death, so seeing this would be very nice.
Also, you could have the person drop all his gear, backpacks and travel sacks into a chest pick up a large pumpkin and then move around, that should insure they have nothing hidden. but still the idea would be nice, stick it in adventure "allow searching" toggle and to search, right-click search
I'm not altogether sure if me making a post about a locked thread is bad form or not, but I couldn't comment, and I really like the idea, toss the thread if you have to.
*Edit* also, you could palm things, by clicking them out of your inventory, able to hide a single object maybe?

Re: Allow searching of belongings
perhaps it could be an add on to the tresspassing skill, right click on the person and search like you said, but you have to have crim acts on to search, if either of you move away then it obviously ends.

That could work, but it might lead to pick pocketing with theft, I'm not sure how I feel about that to be honest, an
interesting development though, were it to happen, either way, these actions should have a timer, like for crafting and such
maybe base searching on perception and exploration? and pickpocketing on stealth and int, I dunno
But yeah, tresspassing would make sense

Re: Allow searching of belongings
i doubt it, people dont pick pocket, they KO and steal, and if your searching someone say to see if he brought weapons to a trade in the case of he's a murder alt bent on destruction, then you only need to view for a second to see, so not many people would give time to pick pocket.
besides it would make sense to have it ass an addition to trespassing, because you are you are going through their stuff without taking it, also might be easier to implement that way, but i dont know how that works, im just assuming

what is the point? i can't imagine a scenario where this would actually be useful.

Me neither. I guess they might want some kind of "secure trade" crap or something, but I don't think the devs would want that. You're supposed to have to trust the person you are trading with to not fuck you over when you both put shit in containers to trade.sabinati wrote:what is the point? i can't imagine a scenario where this would actually be useful.

Re: Allow searching of belongings
I thought about it as a measure against theft, but there's more to it.
Scenario: you're new in a settlement, some valuable shit disappeared the same day you moved in, people have searched everywhere and found nothing so of course they suspect you. Now, to make yourslelf clean you must get yourself KO'd OR, as Woot mentioned, move around with a pumpkin, which is fucking humiliating and makes you wanna leave. With the ability to let others browse through your inventory things would have been much more civilized.

Re: Allow searching of belongings
How is it any less humiliating to let people search your inventory than to run around with a pumpkin?

Re: Allow searching of belongings
Strip down to nothing and run around with a pumpkin vs a virtual pat down? I'd pick pat down.
I actually think this idea is good. I can think of several reasons why you'd want it. Opening your walls to a trader, tracking down theives, setting up a controlled fight for fun and profit.
While I know the Devs like this world to be dangerous, this doesn't make it that much safer. If you are going to get ambushed during a trade, they can still ambush you, or at least ambush your guard.

I'd pick the pumpkin. How would that the pumpkin make someone want to leave? It's the suspicion that would make them wanna leave.
