Formal war declarations to get rid of that pesky open PvP, of course.

Christ almighty, you have got to be the most dense motherfucker I've ever encountered on a gaming forum. I'm losing count of how many times you've misinterpreted things I've said, implied, thought and suggested. I meant war declarations as a means of removing the consequences of PvP, not as a means of isolating PvP. It's a wonder you manage to post without your drool shorting out your keyboard.Potjeh wrote:Formal war declarations to get rid of that pesky open PvP, of course.
Honestly, thinking about it in depth, I probably wouldn't add to villages so much as remove them entirely and drastically overhaul the claim system. If you're going to have villages be little more than glorified land grabs, you might as well just cut the crap and work directly on the idea of land ownership. I'd split off the ideas of the hird and crossroads into their own systems and let land be land. I'm more into the idea of giving the players tools to do their own shit with than just create a ton special cases. I'd also start thinking about the idea of actually fighting over claims and claim degradation instead of having them be these abstract no-maintenance-required LP pools that sit there until the owner either dies or disperses them.sabinati wrote:please list some features that could be added to villages, pictor

Re: Developer Thoughts on PvP
It'd be more about making claims like villages than making villages like claims, although I'd probably link degradation to a constantly draining LP pool rather than authority, for example. The ability to create separate regions within a claim. The ability to grant permissions on a per-person basis. If you're talking about community building tools in general, I could probably have a lot more fun with that. I'd see modifications to the claim system as modifications to the claim system, not as an attempt to redo villages, specifically. It's just that the way I would redo claims would largely make village claims obsolete.Potjeh wrote:And how exactly would these claims differ from villages?

And why is that incompatible with villages remaining villages?
Also, what do you mean by constantly draining LP pool in place of authority?

Basically, I'd give claims (all claims, not just multi-man claims) an LP pool. You could dump your LP into the LP pool, and the claim would drain LP from that LP pool slowly over time based on the size of that claim. Maybe multiple claim owners or segregations increases the drain also. Presumably one joint claim would consume less LP than multiple individual claims, otherwise there'd be no point in having one. It's just something you could play with. I'm in favor of generalized systems over specific applied solutions. That doesn't mean those systems need to be simple, mind you. But really, if you were to sit me down and ask me to redesign HnH, I'd just make my own game.Potjeh wrote:Also, what do you mean by constantly draining LP pool in place of authority?

Re: Developer Thoughts on PvP
Well to me it sounds more like redoing villages thus making claims obsolete
Anyhow, unified claim theory has been something people have been trying to come up with for a long time, but no *good* solution has been found, thus the current system remains. The LP drain would be better handled by "fueling" claim with curios rather than having to "digest" them on a character, IMO, which kinda reminds me of a discussion we had a while ago about replacing claim stakes with domovoi shrines.
The real question, though, is what does any of this have to do with PvP? It certainly doesn't solve the "problem" of resources being on an early bird gets the worm basis.

Well, claims could have their own Mentory of sorts, but the reason I suggested that you pour LP into them directly is because I'd also prefer to remove the one-claim-per-person limit. The idea was that a claim should be something that's fueled by you, not by your items. Which actually leads me neatly to..Potjeh wrote:The LP drain would be better handled by "fueling" claim with curios rather than having to "digest" them on a character, IMO, which kinda reminds me of a discussion we had a while ago about replacing claim stakes with domovoi shrines.
Well I could argue that this doesn't have much to do with PvP and that we just came here after a long-running off-topic branch, but besides that, war is often about territory control. The idea of separating claims from individuals creates the idea that claims might be able to be transfered between people, either through trade or force. Although I'm not sure how "stealing a claim" would work. But you should be able to do it. Right now, if you claim land on an alt and log off, that claim ain't going away until the server resets or somebody builds a village on top of it. There's something wrong there.Potjeh wrote:The real question, though, is what does any of this have to do with PvP?
