I think creature level should somehow be displayed on the ui. It is very easy to wander to higher levels within a short distance.

Re: New skill: appraisal
I'm concurring in regards to the structure quality appraisal skill. Given how easy it is to see the quality of inventory objects, it seems like an oversight that we can't view the quality of structures whatsoever. Edit: Should add armor to this. Instead of quality, all I can see is it's HP and AC.
I'm of no opinion in regards to creature level appraisal at this time.

For the Love of Trolls don't make this another skill. An interaction would be plenty.
Surprise.

To see the quality of armor, left click on it, then hold it in place for a second. This also works on planter pots.

One thing that could be added is a tooltip at mouseover on objects, that gives info about the quality and what item it is (useful for picking up different stuff dropped at the same time)
