Re: Is mid/late game too easy?
I see. By this, I never got past early. But I agree on almost all, if not all of it. Although, I just never got a brickwall, otherwise I'd have been mid- in both W3 and W4.DatOneGuy wrote:The way I see it:
Early - Starting off, getting boat building, the basics to start a city, maybe working on getting your first palisade up, all crops, etc
Early-mid - Got all your crops/initial palisade up, scouting out area for a good village, getting village setup and organized STARTING AND FINISHING BRICKWALL AROUND IT.
Mid - Expansion around your area, getting all basic metals in spades, raising trees, silk, all of that, basic Q raising of all of it.
Late-Mid - Expanded modestly around your SG, pretty good HQ resources, decent warriors, decent bone/cow Q, trees continually raising
Late - Past the point of Top-Q in all of the surpass-able partial-hard limits (Trees, Bones, Metal, etc), aggressively expanding.
Also depends on how you see it as a village or as a character, I always think in terms of villages. The character doesn't mean as much.

I have to disagree : grinding Q is like the shittiest mechanism to give players an incentive to keep playing ; and once you're well established, it's most of the game (that or pvp).GrimEggbert wrote:The game is fun and entertaining at all levels.

What about the 'looking after your establishment' part of the game, like the 'make sure no one ruins your hard work' part

Once you get to mid-late game, the drama adds alot of replayability.

To produce proper drama you need to put alot of effort into the actual grind. I just cannot stand to do it yet another time. Farming, mining, bannering, building walls, securing tons of ressource spots. Because if you want to do it right you better put the rest of your life on hold.
There is not really an easy or hard in Hnh past the initial survival aspect of the game. The players around you make the game hard or easy for you.

Phase 1; Defending.
This is from spawning, till your palisade and claim are up.
Phase 2; Living & Exploration.
This is once you've got your defences up, you can start spamming into your exploration*perception, getting an easy LP income, up till you've got 30-50 in your main skills.
Phase 3; PvP.
This is when you've got soil-q crops going/clay-q metals going, and you start specialising in Combat. If you've joined in mid-way-through the world, you're likely to be targetting by others at this point, because your Mansion/Smelters/Brick Walls/Cows/Sheep/Pigs/so-forth get their attention, that you have something available.
Phase 4; Winning.
This is when you've fought a successful fight and survived. At this point, you continue to grind your farm/mine, trees, skills and levels for several months.
Phase 5; Winning even moar.
This is when everything is done and too easy. You slap attackers aside, you have full ranger gear, a bandit mask, a few thousand cupboards of everything and Q-climbing everything.
This is where I suggest most of us are right now, between Phase 4 and 5 (For those who havn't died & been around since Day One).
Phase 6; Ultimatum.
This is when, in the future, the biggest cities have soaked the smaller surrounding villages into them, or destroyed them, and are continually expanding.
Phase 7; End-game.
This is when major parties begin to clash and some are wiped out. Half of the dead will leave the game, and the other half will start anew in the corners of the world. Meanwhile, the winners shall continue to expand.
Because the player base is so small, relatively, the End-Game is limited by Authority Drain VS Gain. Whilst the villages can become relatively huge, not world expanding. However, in a near future with a large playerbase, we may see such activities, until they rot from the inside out, cause pandemonium for about two weeks, then collapse or, like a phoenix, rise from the ashes with a new leader.

Re: Is mid/late game too easy?
Imho you and your group just need to set up a goal that is NOT quality grind.
Perhaps a RP background (form an inquisition and murder anyone who denies god)?
Or you could do some pixel art on the ground? Or perhaps build buildings in a strange order and decorate with various runestones saying all kinds of wierd shit?
Or just expand your empire, taking over villages, forcing others to join you?
Blackmail, sabotage, infiltration?
Maybe help other villages grow and form a strong alliance (not just trade partnership)?
Build a bigass coliseum-like area and have sparing tournaments or real "gladiatorial" to death battles for prizes?
I see tons of options.
This is a sandbox, you make your own goal and your own fun.
