Re: W5 Money
I will leave this open for now, although I have been telling people over and over again that it is impossible to make a global currency. Not unless there are means to restrict the reproduction of the money. Even then I would bet real money on it that nobody here has the knowledge to pull it of to create a stable global currency.

Re: W5 Money
It could be done, but it would require outside the game means, which will basically annoy the everliving shit out of anyone and eventually when we have this "Well we can do it anyway, where's your excuse now loftar, add it in" it'll be fixed in a better way like 2 years later making all that work pointlessburgingham wrote:I will leave this open for now, although I have been telling people over and over again that it is impossible to make a global currency. Re: W5 Money
Well, without going completely back through the whole thread again, I think that if the vending and barter stands worked right, people would make coinage. They'd probably use the crap metal to do it, but for so many small trades, I think it'd be worth it. From what I've seen of w3 and w5 (w4 just wasn't long enough), there's enough of a supply/demand balance to keep it from getting too out of whack unless someone wants to go out of their way to devalue metals, which is something they could do now.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Having a currency would be nice, but on the other hand why should it be metal ? It isn't because our money was once tied to gold and silver IRL (it isn't even the case anymore) that we should reproduce it in game.
Floatsams and pearls pretty much work as standards right now. They seem stables and you can convert pretty much any value in an equivalent in those, then convert it to something else. I find them good enought as a currency for trading purpose.

Bronze coins are best for various reasons.

1 slot with floatsam/pearl has constant value of its quality. 1 slot with money has value of amount of coins. Besides it is easy to control quality of coins, and almost impossible with founded curios.SuchANerd wrote:Having a currency would be nice, but on the other hand why should it be metal ? I can second Kralmir's comment. Also with barter stands no one needs coins.Zampfeo wrote:Gold and silver don't have a quality.kralmir wrote:coins wont work. i ran worlds end in world 3, a town meant to be the largest currency run town in existence. and i tell you, with all the difference in q and the annoyingly hard maintainability of coins nobody will use them. the best we got is points system on the forum. and thats where it will stay at.
Gold and silver wouldn't be good as they will constantly be put out of circulation and it depends on someone spending massive amounts of them to get enough circulation for them to be used as a standard.

Well, you're obviously way more experienced but I am curious as to what are those various reasons why bronze coins are better. Could you or another vet explain why bronze better fit that role ? Simple curiosity.DatOneGuy wrote:Bronze coins are best for various reasons.
