You know the type, the ones who when everything is going down in their village, let people take their own personal safety, hide in their own personal brickwall that is in the center of it all (read: most protected), and hope they get hit last. If they can't trust their villagers in the good times, why would they trust them in the bed, you'll end up revolting and killing him in the end, or quitting because he sucked the fun out.

Yeah, he wasn't a very good leader. He didn't even do much, log in, afk, get curios, log out.

At the end, he just said "fuck it" and took off with all the valuables that we had vaulted (pearls, silk, steel, prince charming) without telling.

Well, sometimes learning lessons first hand is best. Hope you guys continue playing.

Basically, your leader was a parasite. And those are bad enough when they happen to be simple villagers.

Amen! Taking off was only after saying " I will ensure you guys are all set before I leave and pick a new LS"
We then log in to: he took all the good stuff and joined a new village. Nevermind ME, he betrayed 2 irl friends. I hope he gets what's earned.

Any idea what village?

I'm sure you could find someone willing to hunt the fucker down and return most of what was yours.
Hell the village might even put him out on his ass.

I think there's a bit of a misnomer going on here. People are saying "it's easy to build a brickwall in a day". That's true, IF you have the bricks. I'm not sure these guys had the bricks stockpiled, but they might have been building as they went instead. Brick collection is by far the longest step in building a brick wall. As for the LS... I think you actually got the better deal. Getting him the hell out of there and a new LS was well worth it for the valuables he took. Stuff like good cows and kilns are far more valuable than silk sheets and steel.

I had LS issues myself. He worked hard, but he *insisted* he got the best of everything first. He refused to enter combat, but he got the steel gauntlets and Q31 CC when we raided a village for stealing from us early game. He wouldn't even bring his main to haul loot, only an alt. He refused to let us build *anything* unless he didn't think it was ugly. We all had a brick colour for our house plots, no one else was allowed to use coloured bricks for *anything* because of this. And ultimately all he would do is forage curios for himself and hunt. Even though we needed a million things done, he'd be out foraging, the spoils of which were almost never shared. In the end he disappeared for 2 weeks to play rift, and when he found I was running the village in his absence (ie doing what I'd been doing before hand, except now being able to place buildings/invite people to the village without fighting with him over it first) he flipped a lid and told me "we need to talk".

Some of my new villagers didn't take kindly to how he treated me. They attacked him and kicked him out of the village. Worst moment of my in game experience was that event. I spared his life in the end, which was good. He had 7 alts in the village, and I forgot to kick one of em (he hadn't used it in 1.5 months :/ ). Lost a bunch of movable equipment, but he didn't kill all our cows/chop our trees because I showed mercy.

TLDR; Recognize unhealthy leaders. Either cut their cancer out of the village or move the hell out. It sucks but it's very necessary. No town with crap leaders will ever get far in this game.

i think i know where this is, but there can be some misunderstandings going on, dont rush to the conclusion...
ppl get devastated and exhausted by being griefed, and sometimes do something they didnt even expect themselves doing.
try talking first if the leader is your friend.
