I am fairly new to this game having started about midway into w4. So I am still learning the over all justice system or lack there of. For the most part law or a better term "justice" is what anyone or group makes it to be. So who decides who and what is right or wrong? The stronger person? The larger village? The stronger alliance? So far it seems all of these are correct and wrong at the same time.
From my readings on this forum it seems that any proclaimed ranger deems himself the right to take down anyone who has left behind a summonable offence. Most on the forums will ask questions first but if the offended is unable to tell a good story there is a good chance a crime could go unpunished. On the other hand if the op is able to show some sexy pics and a story most cases they will get assistance mean while their killer mayhave been a proclaimed ranger doing right by his or her faction but was unable to defend them self on the forums.
Justice in itself is never perfect no matter the government in which it is enforced by. So my question is how can we improve our current system if at all? Is what we have today the best we can do? Maybe develop a multi based kingdom where each realm governs their own super grids while offering protection for a price of loyalty or quality of a resource/product? So what say you?

Maybe going to answer some of your questions later. Just in case you haven't read the forums standard text on this topic: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17900
Also going to move it to the Inn. This isn't a topic about specific political occurences, but a topic debating politics in general.

Re: The justice system
We can't, at least not until we have better ways to break into people's vaults.

Up to the whim of the ranger.
We looked for your scents, didn't find many, I'll ask the progress on it later.

Re: The justice system
You see, the biggest problem within this game is that "justice" is doable, but requires a fairly significant time input. Tracking, finding a way into the compound and/or killing the thief on the run requires hours often. And there is a very big financial reward: You get everything he has on him and/or everything in his town as reward. With regards to innocents being killed, there's no way to judge innocence. Anyone can dress in linen clothes and pretend to know nothing. Only scents that have been found and haven't expire yet can act as proof. There are no fingerprints, security cameras or email logs in game.Sevenless wrote: Ranger
A gray zone term applied to people who hunt and kill thieves/murderers/vandalizers. However, their methods in doing so can vary widely. Some are virtuous, some are just raiders looking for an excuse to destroy someone. It is considered perfectly acceptable to kill, destroy and loot an entire town if a thief is found to live there. Choose who you bunk with wisely.
In reality this game does operate like kingdoms, though there is little tithings that I've heard of. A large town will patrol its area while foraging. Any scents or stories of ill deeds they hear of (from people they like/tolerate living near them) will be responded against. Mostly because it's fun to hunt something. Perhaps they slaughter everyone in the offending town, perhaps not. If the kingdom is "corrupt" they raid all their neighbours. How do you get protection? Join their village and produce goods for them.
Rangers are a different breed. They trek the world in search of things to kill. They are mostly morally grey zoned people doing so for amusement. Sexy stories catch their attention because they hunt for the entertainment.
Morale of the day? Might makes right. Want to change the system? Build an army, set up your own kingdom. Then you get to make the rules. That's what most people tend to agree this game is about. Becoming the king, the baker, whatever you want to be. If it's your goal to create a military order enforcing peace, good luck to you sir. We all make our goals in this game, and there are certainly those aiming to be the Despotic King.

We have taken to the idea of something similar. A testing period is coming into place soon. Can't wait to see how it all works out.boshaw wrote:Reminds me sorta of something like w2 goons protection?warpigs wrote:Maybe develop a multi based kingdom where each realm governs their own super grids while offering protection for a price of loyalty or quality of a resource/product

Re: The justice system
Justice is a term I see used often in this game when really it shouldn't be used at all.
Think of the forum as sort of a chaotic judge and jury system. The judge is anyone who is willing to offer your enemies assistance against you, and the jury mostly consists of people who just enjoy adding their meaningless opinions. However the jury does also tend to have some key people that if convinced to favour your side could come in handy.
There really is no form of actual Justice, only who is "more right" for attacking a village or player than another.

Re: The justice system
One example that comes to mind is MS13. They seem to raid and kill at will and most just except that mostly because they cannot do anything about it. I am sure if the larger villages banded together they would have enough to put them down. I could be wrong but having larger factions (kingdoms) make for more interesting politics and larger wars.
I am not interested in become a King/lord. However, I would love the idea of working with in a kingdom and take up arms when called upon for tracking lawlessness or even war. Having a perma Death systems makes this very exciting.
Also, just a little background on what Dat said above. I was killed a few days ago from a sent left in my own village. I am not to hurt from it because I knew at some point some of my past deeds would come full circle. So I have started over instead of just quitting. My death however, is not the reason why I created this topic.
