Money is so after you loot a village that uses it, you can melt it down for scrap metal.

If only the game had a central market system where Loftar and Jorb control the barter stands and use a specific currency that you gain by selling and that no one can reproduce, only stock up on. Ofc the selling would be limited by J&L.burgingham wrote:I will leave this open for now, although I have been telling people over and over again that it is impossible to make a global currency. Not unless there are means to restrict the reproduction of the money. Even then I would bet real money on it that nobody here has the knowledge to pull it of to create a stable global currency.

<3 feudal coinage! <3
If it wasn't such a pain in the ass to make steel as a hermit, I'd totally make a coinpress and make my own currency.
I could have a barter stand where you can trade for coins, and a vending stand where you could spend them :O
...
on the other hand it would be hard to define item values so specifically that you would need something with as little value as a base metal coin.... (except of course, gold and silver, which are quite valuable even in units of 1/100th of a bar)
...
anyone made gold or silver coins?
loftar: New hair styles? Really? Seeing how Jorb never gets off his lazy ass to draw some, I almost want to add them to the game proper.

It seems like the best way to establish a currency and global market is to fix rates on curios. A q10 Lady's Mantle being worth 1 Bronze Coin, a Flotsam being worth 1 silver, etc, etc.

well, with no way to enforce some arbitrary valuation, there's nothing you can do along those linesHarryDresden wrote:It seems like the best way to establish a currency and global market is to fix rates on curios. also if you could do something along those lines, it would turn out badly.
Also, FYI, trade happens because two people value their own goods less than the goods of their trade partner.

Actually setting a nice 'norm' to look at as long as it's upkept by a few trusted and unaffiliated(in most ways) people, it should be fine.ScegfOd wrote:well, with no way to enforce some arbitrary valuation, there's nothing you can do along those linesHarryDresden wrote:It seems like the best way to establish a currency and global market is to fix rates on curios. If people deviate from the norm that is fine and dandy, you can expect something like people paying only 70-90% actual worth on goods because they don't 'need' them, and attempting to sell good sfor 110~130%, rarely will you see things directly even at 100%. Of course things like gold will far exceed their actual initial worth.

IDK, back in Buyan I had a lot of unround prices like 7bc for linen, 4bc for fish filet, 12 bc for eel etc.ScegfOd wrote: on the other hand it would be hard to define item values so specifically that you would need something with as little value as a base metal coin....

q10 lady's mantle would be worth about 32 q10 bronze coins. a q10 flotsam would be worth about 180. probably wouldn't be using q10 coins though.HarryDresden wrote:It seems like the best way to establish a currency and global market is to fix rates on curios. Who gives a crap about setting a standard for the entire world? That defeats the entire purpose of a free market. Is someone going to travel from corner to corner to save two pennies? Probably not, but they might go to the next village over.
At this point the whole conversation is moot. The stands are too broken to use and barter works better. Once the stands work properly, then coinage might be used.
