Server issues: New server

Regarding a few individuals offended by the "QQ"ing posts by other players about the daily server crashes- I am one of the many "QQ"ers. However, I don't yet feel the insatiable urge to officially "QQ" as of yet (lol). Currently, I am feeling some rather serious withdrawals as this game has me hooked. This... Is a very fun game and I look forward to seeing the issue(s) resolved soon.

On a side note, as an avid gamer, I appreciate this particular game very much. Thank you for not being yet another 'WoW clone'. It literally took months to find a suitable, unique game to enjoy.

I don't know how it was prior to two weeks ago, but it feels like server crashes are happening with increased frequency.
Think this has something to do with the amount of players?

No, the server can handle more than what we usually have just fine.

Well, whatever it is, there were some lag spikes during last week. Every now and then 3-5 sec spike, sometimes with minor lag.
So maybe server is overloaded after all.

Can't be a ddos, that'd be silly. One person can't ddos, and I doubt anyone would have a botnet set up just for a game.

It can be a ddos. I remember awful days of attacking cRPG servers (a mp mod for M&B Warband). It was sovled n 2 days, though. And there are no problems anymore. Oddly, jorb seems to be online, and the server is not fixed.

Botnets dont actually need to be setup for a specific target, you can choose your targets fairly fast.
Seeing as how many problems the server normally have (normally =/= lately, it was working perfectly before this weird crashes started) I doubt it would require much effort to cause a crash.

Or even so, just a plain bug that causes the server to crash.

I'd bet more for the plain bug etc, loftar said a couple of times that the server has auto-restart unless the crash was caused by a bug that should be looked upon before starting the server again. I'm not sure about the seriousness of the bug that has to exist to avoid auto-restart, but a plain old DDoS shouldnt be a problem that avoids auto-restart.

Anyway, it's just an opinion based on the stuff that I read from loftar every once in a while on IRC.

Loftar has poked around with the map generator, which runs at a specific time, and that is most likely why the thing has consistently gone kapoof at a specific time, if indeed it has.
