Re: Charity in the Middle of the Harsh Wilderness?
Alt claim, set a Runestone or possibly a road marker with your alts HS outside the claim. Give all permissions to white kin. Tadaaah. You get to keep the camp claimed and anyone with half a brain can access it.

Having looked over the map, I have one question:HasseKebab wrote:http://algeralith.info/HavenMap/?x=-65.67&y=17.68&zoom=9
lolz
Is this the full extent of the H&H world? Because I do not see a location quite like mine.
Does this look familiar to anyone?

Yes, the algeralith map is a composite of the world map as submitted by the players. It's not official and occasionally gets bugged. If you see something that looks just like your surrounding terrain, odds are you've found where you're at. The chances of a duplicate spot is extremely slim as the world is randomly generated.SaintGilbert wrote:

I didn't snip the rest of that convo, but nobody said a word about 'best equipment'. The point is this: Some people will only take what they need. Others will take everything they can carry. Spots like this can also attract raiders who will just take everything because they can and destroy what they can't take. (This is why it's not recommended for new players to spawn at a charter stones.) Do what you can and want to, but just be aware of these facts. It's exactly like setting up a refugee camp in the middle of a war zone. We, in real life, have the UN to enforce rules there. You probably won't have that here.SaintGilbert wrote: If I left them the best equipment, what incentive would they have to go out and try making life better for themselves? I want this place to be a thing for players who need to get back up on their feet, or who are just beginning and are scared and don't know what to do. It must be primitive and basic, or else no one will work to rise above dependency and I will have to babysit them forever. That is God's work, not mine. But I think I can help them at least to survive while they look for a rabbit they can catch and squash so they can make a bonesaw, or until they can afford yeomanry.
From what I've heard, it can be a pretty hostile world for newbies.
Yes, it is a hostile world. That's the point: learn to survive!

I suppose, upon thinking about it, that was not the point of bringing up the losses of their cast iron beds, or suggesting not to leave anything better than a wooden plough for public use. You're right: I'm probably going to lose a lot by doing this. But while it would mean more to do so IRL, I still want to do this in hopes that by doing so and persevering, I might give young players hope and support that new players severely lack - if they want support. I can survive, and I want to help others to, too.MagicManICT wrote:Yes, the algeralith map is a composite of the world map as submitted by the players. It's not official and occasionally gets bugged. It's like giving money to homeless people. Often you'll get scammed, but eventually you find one that really needs the help.
That being said, without a village idol to warp refugees in, you're mostly just helping out the local noobs. Not really a bad thing I suppose.

Pretty much everyone in this game is an asshole, myself included (no flames, please and thank you), which means that if you make these, they usually get raided and hey presto some guy uses his alt to claim it and use it as a place to throw his trash.

To quote another of our 'esteemed' veterans (think it was sapphireking) "Everyone here is either an asshole or an idiot; sometimes both."supercharazard wrote:Pretty much everyone in this game is an asshole, myself included (no flames, please and thank you), which means that if you make these, they usually get raided and hey presto some guy uses his alt to claim it and use it as a place to throw his trash.
The biggest hindrance. Of course, if you put up a village claim, you could always create a charter stone for new players to start at. I'll point you at my previous warning, though.Sevenless wrote:That being said, without a village idol to warp refugees in, you're mostly just helping out the local noobs.

The map is not automatically updated, so if your house/palisade is new it won't show up at all. It's better to look for terrain features rather than construction or terraformed land for that reason. Your pictures shows heathland adjacent to a boundary between two woodland types, which is moderately distinctive but not brilliant. I recommend finding either a beach, thicket or mountain, and working out where you are in relation to that.SaintGilbert wrote:
