Last week I founded a brand new country called "%#$^!" which has committed countless heinous acts throughout its long and bloody history and earned the undying hatred of millions. Our official language is composed of every swear word known to man, our national anthem is the sound of nails on a chalkboard played for six hours straight (we play the extra long version during the olympics) and our primary export is tourists.

Snails ain't all that bad, a fuckload of them is imported from Bosnia.
Used to collect them for dosh.
Used to eat them too. You just cook 'em in a big pot, separate them from the shell, sep. the guts from the foot, wallow it in flour and fry.

Usually, people working in the tourism industry speak english, or atleast they try to (not always briliantly, I have to say). However, I'll admit that english isn't so well spread in France, partly because of historical choices and partly because french is a big enough language to justify french versions of most cultural products (movies, books, etc...).

English teaching in France should become better over time though (mostly because the french educational officials started realizing a few decades ago that english was a standard), but I strongly doubt it'll ever become as good as it is in other countries with good educational standards and a smaller language in terms of users (such as nordic countries or flamish-speaking countries).

I may add that we love to taunt our arch-enemies, englishmen, so we sometimes taunt them a bit by not using (or poorly using) their language <3.

And we saved their ass from being removed off the globe in WWII. What respect did we get for that? Oh and they jumped in at the end of the war when it was clear that we had already won our independence .

The lyrics are -very- dirty, but DAMN the song is catchy.

French fries aren't actually french. In french, french fries are called fried potatoes.

Ahaha, that's brilliant. I'm saving that quote.

Germany got caught with pants off by history, but most western "civilized" country in the late XIX/early XXth centuries had the same views.
Ironically, a decent share of the people reminding how bad germany was still live in countries where racism/nationalism are mainstream and/or won't apologies for the dark spots in their histories...

And eugenics. Which means well, it really does. Eugenics is an ideology that intends to breed a superior race of human beings. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But when such people are given the power to sterilize you without your permission, and when part of their plan of a master race is to exterminate a supposedly inferior race, such people cannot be trusted, for - as the NAZIs taught us, and as any country that would have taken eugenics to its logical conclusion would have - no one is safe when genetics and disabilities decide who lives and who dies, whether in the womb or out of it.

Genetics can't tell us who will have the most compassion, mercy, or charity for others. It also can 't tell us what a person, retarded or not, can do for us as a race. Nor whether a person is happy or sad when they are mentally or physically handicapped. There's more to life than genes.
'It has been proved a hundred times over that if you really wish to enrage people and make them angry, even unto death, the right way to do it is to tell them that they are all the sons of God.' - G.K. Chesterton, "The Defendant" - 1901

'It is no fault of Christianity that a hypocrite falls into sin.' - Saint Jerome, d. 420 AD
