WTF?!?!?!?! Whatever drugs you're smoking, please share!GoodGirl wrote:It's pushing the realism aspect a little, but I think coins would be useful if you could turn 10 of any item into a single coin (coin quality is the average of the item quality). You could then redeem the coin for 10 of that kind of item at your ancestral altar, or perhaps at a new "market stand" building.
For example, you could take 10 blueberries of average q25 to a coin press and make 1 q25 blueberry coin. You could make a few more of these, then go trade blueberry coins for other items without having to lug around giant chests of the fruits themselves. The person you traded to can turn the coins back into blueberries or keep them to trade with other people.

Re: Currency Overhaul
I legitimately thought that Goodgirl's idea was decently thought out and practical. The problem arises with averaging material qualities. Other than that anything that acts to help store and transport items is great. I don't personally think it works quite well in the game, as the idea of a coupon dematerializing and rematerializing goods is a bit silly, but besides that it's a fine enough suggestion.
I think it'd apply much more to storage of goods than to actual trade more than anything else but the two are certainly related.

I can see 'packaging' goods up, but in a way, doesn't a blueberry represent a bunch of them off a wild bush already? Nobody uses a single blueberry to make a pie. Besides, Loftar has already said he's come up with some new designs for mass storage of some goods.TeckXKnight wrote:I I don't personally think it works quite well in the game, as the idea of a coupon dematerializing and rematerializing goods is a bit silly, but besides that it's a fine enough suggestion.

Re: Currency Overhaul
Surely the best way to go about making a strong currency is going to be similar to how it is done in real life.
1) Currency should be backed by something of value, eg a massive fortress filled with gold bars (For Knox much?). Where the point of owning the coin is that if you go to the currency creator and ask to cash in your coins you can get back whatever the coins says its worth is in the product that is backing it. eg If one copper coin was worth 1 gold bar, for the currency to have value you should be able to go to the bank and cash in 5 copper coins for 5 gold bars.
2) It needs to be controlled by people that the general H&H population have confidence in.
If there is no value backing the currency it is just fiat money and if people do not have confidence in the currency then it will fail. Without confidence any coin currency will just default back to the base metal value, it does not matter what the bank says it is worth.
However right now any coin currency cannot work except as the value of the base metals used to make it. The only thing I can think of that could fill this gap is paper money. More specifically cheques which could be written using the current way of making notes. However forgery could be problematic and it may be necessary to have such a system supported by out of game means such as confirming transfers via a forum.
It would be a lot of work but then so is running a bank in real life.
---
If it was possible to forge special coins though that could only be forged exactly by stealing a coin press and making a copy then I think you could relatively easily make a backed currency so long as you had the ability to create your own Fort Knox and cultivate a certainty in the value of your money.

I thought the Cavebulb was standard hearthland currency?

Jewelry and symbel items are now softcapped by goldbeater skins so having thousands of psyche is no longer necessary or valuable.AnnaC wrote:I thought the Cavebulb was standard hearthland currency? :D
