Re: Gold
Well, it is kinda hard when people are in similar timezones.
Anyway, you're obviously not going to adjust your price, so the general consensus in CoB is that we won't trade with you. We can wait for a gold mine of our own, and full steel equipment is more important to us right now than rings. We have multiple dedicated scouts looking for mines, so it's only a matter of time.

Re: Gold
Temperature Quality. The best steel is made by keeping the temperature- the fuel bar- of the crucible/forge at precisely 50%. This means that you can't get good steel by fueling every 7 hours, but instead by fueling every few minutes. For three days.

Re: Gold
i wonder how much it really affects the result though, for example if i start with a q50wrought and keep it up between 100-88% everytime, what would be the resulting steel then!

Re: Gold
Sorry we couldn't do business Potjeh.
Maybe it's time I should go into more detail about the rarity of gold. I'm sure everyone knows by now that gold mines are very rare, I'm not sure everyone knows how rare a nugget really is though.
As full industry I am getting 1 nugget in about 3 loads of ore, before the update I was getting 1 bar in every 12-15 loads.
The amount of food, tea and time that goes into that is enormous as for steel, if you don't really care about quality you only need to spend 30 seconds per 2 bars once every 10 hours (to be safe).

I didn't know this. holy crap man.... holy holy jeesus tap dancing crap.Potjeh wrote:When you're making steel, you have to keep crucibles exactly half-filled at all times for optimal temperature, or you'll get crap steel.

Re: Gold
Oh, I'm well aware of the low success ratios when smelting gold. But let's do some math: gold success ratio is 1:400, iron is 1:10. Ignoring supply and demand, this places value of one gold bar at 40 cast iron bars. Cast iron is worth 1/4 to 1/6 wrought, depending on vendor. So let's take the average of 5, and say that a gold bar is worth 8 wrought bars. One steel is almost universally priced at 3 wrought (when q is irrelevant), which sets the price of gold at 1 gold for 2.66 steel. Converted to nuggets, taking 10 as the average value, that's .266 steel for one nugget. Let's round it to 1/4, though that is slightly unfavourable for the gold producer.
So, value of a gold nugget labour-wise is 1/4 of a steel bar, and you're asking for 10 bars. That's a 4000% profit margin. I can respect that supply and demand has great influence over the final price, and I understand that the effort to find a gold mine is worth something, even if it's a one-time cost. But 4000% is still ridiculous, no offence.
We might trade in the future when your prices go down, as I'm sure they will. Till then, good luck with your business.
