sorry if the title misleads you, i'm talking about distribution of mined ore in a village, not where ore is underground
If this is in the wrong forum, let me know, i didn't think it really serious enough to go into congress
so anyway, there was a minor disagreement in our village the other day, before the servers wen't down that is, and we had, that day, started mining iron (which we hadn't before, we're fairly new). After me and two others returned with our haul and smelted it, i'll list what was made
- 2 pick axes (obviously for our miners)
- a metal plow and a scythe (again, fairly obviously for our farmer)
- 3 militia swords (that went to those with the best suited skill and knowledge)
so, the disagreement came from two villagers that felt this to be unfair, one of who couldn't have used anything made of metal, to put it bluntly, so we'll count him out for now, the other person who felt it was unfair, believed he should have gotten a pick so he could mine too, the point i made against this was that three of us mining was just fine and it seemed a better idea to just keep a small number and give them picks, but he and the other guy disagreed, they also thought that the iron used to make swords should also have been distributed better, it could, for example, have been used to make a pick for another miner, all of the villagers online felt we did the right thing with the metals and that their point was neither valid nor well made.
so why am i here? I really just want to hear what some more experienced players have to say about this. is there a better set of priorities when distributing metal than this, which goes as follows
Those who can benefit from the tools are high priority, those who have equal benefit and also put in work for said metals are somewhat higher, those who help the village out and are generally nice people are somewhere around the middle, and then at the bottom, those who are unlikely to receive anything aside from surplus, the people who lack the skills to use the tools/weapons and aren't really a great presence in the village, but are more interested in progressing their own character until they can be of help.
i'd just like to know if this is the right way to do it, while there may in fact be no "right" way, is this at least how some more experienced players did it when their villages were less developed.

Re: ore distribution
Priority list:
1) secure a faster income of resource (picaxe)
2) supply enough for farmers and hunters (plow, swords, eyeglass)
3) look at who remains, if they need metal for thier work, give it to them, if they require other things.. use metal for trade.
4) ???
5) Profit $$$

Re: ore distribution
We did pickaxes, metal saws, shovels and pickaxes that could be used by every villager by putting them in an open accessible toolbox in village with our first metals...
Then spectacles for everyone and plows for farming...
Swords and Armor much later...

hmm... public materials aren't really an option for us, a lot of our villagers are fairly new players and still learning how a village works, they get awfully exited by shiny things and often "lose" them...

Re: ore distribution
So there should be a "Do not use outside of village rule" and even new Chars can use pickaxe to chip stones faster or metal saw to get more boards from logs...
And when ppl don't get motivated to share....

Re: ore distribution
Well as the miner and smith of a moderately sized village, I have to say that I don't see making 3 militia swords as any sort of major priority. To be fair, if you are under siege constantly or the area is crawling with small time raiders then yes, swords are a decent step. But in my opinion militia swords, especially from your first batch of metal (which can I assume wasn't that high of q?) are not all that useful, it would be better put to to making wrought iron for saws or even armor but mostly for pickaxes, scythes, and shovels. If you have a problem with everyone needing their own set of tools because they can't share, well then I'm sure I can help you sort that out.

Also, with them moving that slowly, you don't need 3 pickaxes, I doubt they are all mining at the same time, make them share.DeBosh wrote:Wth man, 3 miners and you just have this amount of ore? Really, lazy boyz.hazzor wrote:post.
