We made pickaxes, scythes, saws, shovels and plows. Miners got their own pickaxe, farmers got their own scythes, the saws, shovels and plows were for community use with the farm getting its own plow.

We also made a few extra tools for community use, but first only the people who were reliable at doing their job and needed metal tools got something they could keep.

When we started making armor and weapons the combat people got theirs first and as we made better gear we trickled down the older stuff to the other people until the older stuff went to alts. After our metal flow was decent i made sure everyone had decent gear and the miners always had good pickaxes.

first metal we had we made things necessary of mining, pic axe, anvil, hammer etc
then farming equipment- plow, scythe
then had other shared equipment for digging and destumping areas

we didnt make weapons or armour until we got attacked. we made armour for those who went out hunting and foraging.

next major step was walls

not sure how your village functions, but people generally make requests if they need something personal which may not be deemed important, like weapons for a farmer or something. and its up to me generally with the chief to decide if its necessary.

militia swords arent vitally important or that useful as a start. and if people are wanting them when they dont have the skills to use them id be slightly worried.

Going to have to agree with the militia sword. Better off with a Soldier's Sword or just making a fist as Sab suggested (ie cutthroat knuckles... great for hunting with or any UA warriors).

Nobody has even mentioned a cauldron or meat grinder? Really? Those should be a much higher priority than any of the villages other tools (exception of pick axes). However, until a brick wall is up, I'd put all resources into that once iron is obtained. There's no point in having all those nice things if you can't protect it properly.

yeah meat grinders and cauldrons too are vital.

once you have all equipment, most metal i use now is for curios

I don't think they're completely useless.... They can still learn the basics of using a sword with them and the hunters that use UAC/Melee will be able to finish off animals quicker, not too mention, noob griefers may be put off with people with Militia Swords and a Necro robe.

I would suggest getting Cauldron and Meat grinder though, they will help much more than a sword
