I was thinking, wouldn't it be easy to implement natural plant speading?
Tree's could drop their seeds, and the it would check the distance of other trees. If there isn't one within 5-6 tiles, it starts growing.
You could also have them check to see how far away the nearest plains are. This would give the edge of forests. Same with paved tiles.
Also the ability to have the trees fall in the direction you're facing when you cut them. This way the logs don't get caught in other trees.

I was under the impression that this already happens...

No, people have to plant the trees themselves.theTrav wrote:I was under the impression that this already happens...

Would be neat if ground around trees (many trees - like 10 on 10² tiles) would turn into forest ground after a while (in game weeks / month). I guess this would be hard to handle codewise, tho.

I completely agree and made a topic of my own a little while back which can be found here:
Naturally spawn new trees.
I really like the idea of nature taking back over the world.

I, too, quite like the idea of natural reforestation, but there is the technical problem of server resources. The current map could easily fit several million trees if they grew naturally, and the current map is very small in comparison with what it's planned to become. It may not be unthinkable, though.
