Hey, just wanted to give a shout out to the group of guys that chased me down in a boat late last night (late for me anyway). It's the first real action I've seen in this game since I always hermit up. I had already made the decision to get more into the whole game this go around, and you've just piqued my desire for action even more. I'd have rather made it a much more interesting chase, but I just didn't have time. I tried to swim for it and drowned in a suicide.
For those that want the long version:
Yesterday evening, I had went AFK (more like turned my head to catch something on TV) and when I looked back around, there was a guy standing next to me. I didn't see if he was actually trying any moves on me or not, as I wasn't in combat. I moved to pick up the boards I had cut, and he knocks me out. A short chase ensues, and a few knockouts later, I escape into my cabin. Total HHP loss: about 10. The one time I stopped to build up some defense, he started building IP, so I figured knock teeth, cleave, chop, etc was coming, so I took off running again.
A bit later (well past time I should have been in bed, anyway), I was out doing some general exploration and hunting. I had nearly killed a bear when someone came up and started waiting there. I figured he was going to try and steal my kill, so I delayed. My spidey sense started tingling, but I ignored it. I hung around too long and two more guys come up. As soon as the third guy got there, I decided (too late) that I should probably cut and run.
A short boat race ensued. They had me trapped for a moment on the lake, but I was able to squeak out and run down a river. I had almost lost my pursuers, but had misjudged the room and hit on a small piece of land just barely jutting out into the water. Before I could get pulled out and around, they had blocked me in. They were enough to pin me in with the land, so I hopped out of the boat and ran hoping to lose them in the forest. I did pretty good and was able to get back to a free boat, but wasn't quick enough to get off the shore and the one guy with rage was able to hop in the back of the boat with me, so I jumped off on the other shore.
I chased off through the forest a bit more. The one guy with rage was able to knock me out again and they tried to pen me in with signs and their bodies. I just smashed the signs real fast and escaped back out with them getting caught up on themselves and the signs. However, this time they were smart and moved the boats, and I was exhausted from the running. I decide it was time for bed, so I gave a swam for it and died about halfway across.
Oh, and...

Should of heard me raging on voice chat.. MOVE THE BOATS YOU NOOBS. Also, even with your stated "slim to none" chance of getting that bear. got it.

Even after years of Eve, I just plain forgot some of the most basic lessons of PvP games. I just got bullheaded and ignored the little voices inside.
If I hadn't hesitated killing it, I'd probably had it dead before anyone even showed up. I found it at a bad spot almost clear at the top of that lake and had to kite it down so I could get more stones to kill it without chancing it despawning on me.

Take about one more shot to kill?
