I know this has been brought up a bazillion times, but I miss the old LP system. It actively rewarded you for anything you did, how diverse it may be (hunting (dont forget killing in general, nothing wrong with some fair old PvP), farming, mining, etc. I felt by doing something, I became better equipped to do it, and enjoyed playing.
If I felt something became a grind, I'd switch to another activity.
Curios, to my knowledge, earn way less LP in general than the old system made you do, so character developement is slower, which it makes it a pretty long wait before you are any useful at all. Which brings me to the next point, waiting. I can literally log on 5 minutes a day, invest my newly gained (bit of) LP into something, check if I need to do something (crops maybe, not food as you dont get hungry while offline-studying), put some curios in my study and do whatever I want again. Ofcourse the social aspect and initial need for advancement in game still makes you play longer than that, but its not like playing actually helps your character -that- much anymore.
I do fully well know this will not happen, but I would like the old system to be returned.

The reward for doing things is the materials provided.

Which, apart from making curiosities, did not change.cobaltjones wrote:The reward for doing things is the materials provided.
The thing with this is, although ofcourse true, curios give slower LP than the old system did.

Re: Before and after Curiosities
Your comment made it seem like you were complaining because hunting did not give LP as a reward (as an example). The reward for hunting is meat and hides. If you do not need meat and hides then you shouldn't be hunting.Thijssnl wrote: Which, apart from making curiosities, did not change.
This is simply incorrect. While with the old system it was possible to mindlessly grind your way out of the early game, with the curiosity system it's possible to gain 3x LP per day once you read the mid-high game tier compared to the old LP system.Thijssnl wrote: The thing with this is, although ofcourse true, curios give slower LP than the old system did.

Although a grind yes, I have yet to use curios/see them on wiki that give more LP than say, machinegunning a few herds in an hour.cobaltjones wrote:Your comment made it seem like you were complaining because hunting did not give LP as a reward (as an example). Re: Before and after Curiosities
Both of the systems have a lot of major problems. The old grinding system was abused to hell by bots, and the curio system pretty much eliminates the idea of permadeath for major factions because they can just curio up an army of alts (and there are still bots).
Personally I think that a variation on the old grindy system without bots would be the ideal way to approach this game, it means people will care about their characters and are actively rewarded for playing. I haven't taken to posting my ideas (I've got lots of them), because the game is no longer being updated and in my opinion this forum has become nothing more than a cesspool.

Re: Before and after Curiosities
I had probably 3+ characters with 300+ stats... Thanks to curios.Tonkyhonk wrote:people wont take your suggestions seriously if you still believe this.Thijssnl wrote:Curios, to my knowledge, earn way less LP in general than the old system made you do, so character developement is slower, which it makes it a pretty long wait before you are any useful at all.
Curio system allows you to train multiple characters to high stats at the same time given that you have the resources and infrastructure to do so. LP/day gain rate can also be drastically higher if you know what you're doing (Yes, even faster than machine gunning herds all day). Plus you can get the high LP rate every day since you wouldn't get burned out from hunting for a week straight.
My thoughts about the LP rate from curios: Too low at early game stages given that you don't have the proper infrastructure; too high at later stages in the game given that you have the infrastructure. However, it is an overall good system.
FYI, it took me 3 weeks to train Shenbatu from nil to 300 UA, 300 melee with some curios I had stored in my cellar (not necessarily the most efficient way I might add). I was using things like Volva's wands, wishbones, seer's leaves, seer's bowls, bark boats, edelweiss, teddies, steeds, prisms, straw and porcelain dolls, etc. I used whatever I had and whatever was easiest for me to stockpile. Volva's wands and tin men weren't difficult for me to mass produce because I had an miner alt with 400+ strength, access to town's anvil, and my main was a crafter.

+1
now about the old system better than the new(LP wise.) it was stated that peeps can get up to 250K LP in a 24 hr period. I believe that was not a possibility with the old system.
I for one remember being with a strong mid level village and gettin mondo LP with Q70-100 crafted curios. though i can't remember the actual numbers, i'm thinking i was loggin into with round 70k(give or take 10K) of lp during my gaming sessions. Though i can't remember the actual numbers, i believe they are somewhat close.
I agree if they tweaked the current system like you say And there was a way to get rid of alts. this system would Rock. but since this is an indie game, your gonna have botters and players with thier own personal Alt army.Sarchi wrote:Curio system allows you to train multiple characters to high stats at the same time given that you have the resources and infrastructure to do so.
