I totally agree with you that a good game, with lower graphisms than the ones on the market, is just what a part of the gamers is currently looking for ! See Minecraft or Terraria for famous examples...
I think it's a new way of playing, and many gamers prefer a good game concept instead of beautiful games with a poor gameplay OR a poor story.
We love the HnH concept and if we're here, that's because we love the game !

Frankly, for this kind of game, it would seem that the point at which better graphics would become more of a burden would arrive sooner than games in other genres.

Yes, that's how i think. Moreover, I doubt whether that new game is to have better graphics at all. The screens and videos make me a bad impression , actually.
