After hearing stories about people killing others with a single punch, a thought occurred to me, "what if there came a situation where I wouldn't want to kill my victim?" So how about adding an attack (one for unarmed and another for melee) that deal little or no damage to hard HP, but full damage to soft?
The attacks themselves would be similar to punch and/or sting, but they would only deal damage to soft HP, the idea for these attacks is that in PVP, you will only knock out your target instead of outright killing them. I know most raiders usually have a strict "no mercy" policy, but people should probably have a choice on wither they should either kill, Knock out, or knock out and then kill.
As for fighting animals, these attacks would be no different from a normal attack since animals don't have hard hp, or so I've heard. (Knocking out an animal is pointless anyway)

Do you realize that Punch only deals 1 HHP damage? You are never actually going to murder someone with 1 punch, so I wouldn't worry about it. The OP of that recent thread didn't even KO the guy with 1 punch.Alchem wrote:After hearing stories about people killing others with a single punch, a thought occurred to me, "what if there came a situation where I wouldn't want to kill my victim?" brand new noob with no armor has 100 hhp and 100 shp, to do 200 damage in 1 punch someone would need 40,000 strength(damage = truncated squareroot of strength)...I don't see that happening

Re: Non-lethal attacks?
*edit* Punch damage is 0.75 * 50 * sqrt(str / 10). So you wouldn't need anywhere close to 40k strength.

Re: Non-lethal attacks?
oops looking at basic damage formula, this is what happens when the server is down
using punch formula you need 285 strength...and I guess that is possible, now I want screenshots of someone being killed in 1 punch
the math:
285/10
sqrt 28.5
50 * 5.3385391....
.75 * 266.92955
200.1971625

Re: Non-lethal attacks?
SHP damage doesn't roll over into HHP damage unless you hit them after they are KO'd, so hitting 200 with punch doesn't make a difference.

Re: Non-lethal attacks?
when you take more damage than you have shp it takes it off of hhp(atleast in all my experiences) though I've never actually been knocked out by a punch(or knocked anyone out with a punch) so I won't argue with you on this 1...just state my experiences:
I have been knocked out by a blow that did more damage than I had remaining shp, that blow left me on the ground birds swirling and lowered my hhp by the remaining damage.
if you've taken a hit that was for more damage than you've had shp with no hhp loss and you weren't sparring, I'd like to know more.
