How come it says "You cannot build that there"? I have 2 tiles of space between each cornerpost and stone laid where the gate would be... someone please help?

You need to lay stone on both sides of the gate.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

as in lay stone in front and behind the gate also?

That's correct.
