it is incredibly random. last world we had decent wax being produced according to the q of the crops we had.
this world its been difficult to get the wax to improve to any decent level.
We tried remaking the hives, using better materials and it makes little difference.
I have set up a carrot farm the same size as the hive radius, which i regularly harvest , i've seen slight improvement in the wax quality but not close to the actual quality of the carrots grown there.
so what am i doing wrong? what is the best way to get wax quality up?

Everything you just listed is the best way to get wax quality up. I don't even know what's up with wax. =(

According to loftar, material quality has no effect on hives. This has led some of the community to figure that wax/honey production is based entirely on feeding quality like other animals.Eemerald wrote: We tried remaking the hives, using better materials and it makes little difference.
I've always had best luck with mixed crops as I've lived the hermit lifestyle and the couple of spots where I've had a single crop type feeding a hive, the quality rarely climbed as much as with the mixed crop area.
There's tons of feedback on this subject. There's a lot of myth, too. Good luck figuring it out.

ah will try a mix crop field in my new circular farm for wax. it takes so long to farm the area too, but the q is barely making an improvement.MagicManICT wrote:According to loftar, material quality has no effect on hives. and yeah i heard quality of materials doesnt matter, but thought it was worth a shot to test it out and see.
thanks for the advice!

fwiw I've noticed multiple times that rebuilding hives with higher quality materials nets a quality of that similar to the materials used on the next immediate harvest. This of course might simply be a coincidence. But I find it hard to believe, with what I've noticed through my time in the game, that material quality doesn't matter in some form.

Have you tried rebuilding with trash materials or at least not "max quality"? It was a report handed down through an IRC chat, so there's no definite post here.cobaltjones wrote:fwiw I've noticed multiple times that rebuilding hives with higher quality materials nets a quality of that similar to the materials used on the next immediate harvest. yeah simply rebuilding the hives with any q material gives wax a bosst but then drops regardless of the quality of the materials used

Re: improving q of wax
Since this thread is current I might as well ask here -
Is the radius of a beehive definitely circular? I ask because I have also gone for the circular farm look, and when a lot of it was harvested at once, the regrowth appeared to be faster inside a square with sides of 21 units, rather than going to the exact edges of the green beehive radius. This might or might not be a new thing, I noticed it on a few squares in w5 but due to different crop rotations it was, if present, never so obvious.
I am also interested in further research into wax production

I'm not entirely sure but i believe they would function similar to mine supports where if the radius touches at least the center of a tile it is affected.min_the_fair wrote:Since this thread is current I might as well ask here -

Re: improving q of wax
hmm not sure, my main farm area isnt circular, and right now it produces abt the same quality wax as my circular tester farm for wax. so it probably makes no difference i'm waiting to see if after a few harvests the quality increases or notmin_the_fair wrote:Since this thread is current I might as well ask here -
