I suggest we be allowed to tap maple trees for the sugary sap.
This sap can be a low grade food, or be processed in a cauldron into maple sugar (or syrup).
Tapping a tree would only require an ax, a stick for the spile, and a bucket.
A good tree tap can produce more than 10 liters in a day, but I recommend 2 liters per day as the norm. The sugar content in the trees I tap each year is high, we get about 1 liter of syrup for every 32 liters of sap (we throw away the ice). A mature tree can support two spiles, or taps, with no harm to the tree.

Yes, we have discussed it, and it would be fun. I just haven't figured out any good way to implement the tap itself.

The tap may be more complication than necessary. Historically sap was collected from a hatchet slash on the tree that dripped into bark containers.

No, the tap should require five bars of steel and some silk. Plus bear bone for the handle
Surprise.

And perhaps a few druid cloaks. Anyway, they should be like wells, you just build them on a tree like you would a water tile. After that they work like a winepress, but they produce the sap without help from you besides building it.
