In future incarnations I think it's definitely on their list to remove fast travel, but you really can't just up and remove it entirely in the middle of the world without doing a bunch of other rebalancing around it. Lots of people would be locked in/out of their towns if this was the case.
It's most likely on the chopping block, but a lot of other stuff comes with it.

Adding a timer to the abilities is just as worse. At this point in the game its hard to just live as a hermit, why make it even worse. I would rather a world wipe and removal of the teleportation system than a change to hearthing and logging out mid game.cobaltjones wrote:In future incarnations I think it's definitely on their list to remove fast travel, but you really can't just up and remove it entirely in the middle of the world without doing a bunch of other rebalancing around it. Re: Get out of jail free - Autohearth Client
@Cobaltjones, I would like to point out that botting/modding goes on in every MMO. Jorb is right when he says that it's not by restricting the client source big MMO's discourage botting/modding.
WoWGlider is one example of botting in a big MMO, that whole story resulted in a court case (probably because Blizz realied that it wasn't feasible to play cat-and-mouse anymore).
For WoW there have always been exploiting and botting and such things can be done with or without an open source client. For WoW I saw people using AutoIt for botting and it actually worked pretty well (way better than expected). I once made a bot for a Swedish trivia game, without interacting with any client code at all, I simply learned how to communicate with the server through a small python script.
I am sure a lot of people on this forum could look at the packets in this game in wireshark or similar tools and learn how to interact with the server. Had the client been totally locked down the majority would have been stuck with an 800x600 window with an illumination layer, while the H&H aristocracy would have had radars, highlighters, bots, auto-hearthers, you name it. I think it's way better that it's open source, because then at least there is some sunlight when it comes to exploiting/modding/botting and such.

Please explain to me how adding a small timer is actually worse than removing teleportation entirely? (Hint: It's not.)Astarisk wrote:Adding a timer to the abilities is just as worse. inB4 Jorb gets tired of all the bitching and just brings the server down until they have time to code for the game.
(I support this idea btw.)

With teleportation completely removed, people would have to walk to hearth vaults and hide there instead. Towns and outposts would be more centralized, and if you wanted to raid someone you had better damn walk you ass there. Dudes. They don't want to do a good client, they've made this game and is fine like this. Is too hard, or too time needed, make a better client and loftar himself told that he hate code clients.
They relased the client free to let people fix the work for them. Of course, not all the people work it for good porpose and ther's nothing about complain, you give the toy to a kid, the kid will try to trik it and make it more easy. Sometime more easy to play, often more easy to win.
I'm sorry but i don't think they really care so much.

Re: Get out of jail free - Autohearth Client
Em, that's not entirely true. Though it is true that I don't like working on the client, I would certainly like the default client to be better. We didn't release the source in order for others to make it OK so that I wouldn't have to do it, but for completely other reasons. One of the reasons is that, as Jorb has pointed out, modding should be open to all rather than for the few who really invest in it. The reasons why that is true have been covered quite enough in this thread already. Another reason, however, is that one has to recognize that there's no "optimal" UI. No matter how much I might improve the default UI, there's still no "one size fits all" for UIs (which is also why I've tried to make the UI code in the Salem client much more easily moddable).Flame wrote:Dudes. It's meant to be hard to be a hermit, you are only one person, you can only do one thing at a time. People are bitching and moaning about how being hermit is to hard, but the fact is that IS being a hermit. being a hermit involves huge risk, especially when leaving your walls. You have no allies readily available to back you up and of course raiders raid in groups because; Numbers > Stats > Skill.Astarisk wrote:Adding a timer to the abilities is just as worse. If you don't enjoy the challenge, join a village and quit your bitching.
That said I completely hate the idea of radar, but because everyone else will use it, how can I possibly not use it, it's such a huge advantage.
TL;DR
Hermits have always had a disadvantage - Stop crying.
Modded clients have many features that should not have been implemented IMO.
