Just throwing ideas out there. But a hq parchment is worth more than a lq bar if the currency as accepted. Or perhaps we arrange it like this, 2 q100 bank notes is 1 iron bar. 4 q50 is 1 iron bar. 8 q25 is 1 iron bar. This is still exploitable though. Also, counterfeit doesn't matter as long as they took the time to make the parchment and write on it. That would just mean lots of inflation.
Another idea, a local map of the ROB standing in the exact center could be currency. Then it is harder to counterfeit, but that doesn't matter, it helps money get into the system. Again, the q is the value. This way work is required, as apposed to just cutting up a hide.

Why should someone who made themselves a gold bar not be able to become richer? In fact, the transition of gold to and from coins is what gives the coins their value.
Surprise.

Agreed. The only motivation for paper money seems to be so that the maintainers of the "currency" can control how much of it anyone has.Peter wrote:Why should someone who made themselves a gold bar not be able to become richer? coins are fine, we just need more to be made and more transactions that aren't rounded up or down to the nearest bar. Nuggets are a PITA that I wish had not been implemented

You'd rather burn through ten times as much ore without any return?

Farmchamp, you are an idiot and do not understand the slightest thing about how a currency works.
But if you'd like to exchange these 100+ QL 100+ parchments I can get from one hunting trip for a bar each be my guest.
What is needed is: Boost cost of coin press, make it so each village can make one for a large amount of authority.
Each coin press is given a 4 character name by the lawspeaker that creates it, Chernobyls would be GOON, Brodgars CoB and so forth.
No duplicates of a name can exist, each village can run their currency how they feel.
For example Chernobyls would be backed on fear, Brodgars on actual metal and some may choose not to back it.
While it would result in alot of currencies in use, some would clearly get more use than others such as Brodgars would be a clear winner for the common currency.

You can't have counterfit coins if there is no legal way to make them. No city has any law in HavenandHearth saying "Only we can make coins. Your coins are illegal." If all coins have the same worth in their melted down metal, then it's fair game.

I gotta disagree with you here. Imho nuggets allow things that require less metal than a bar to have a practical cost. Makes having a shitton of chests reasonable to midlevel players and having a few reasonable to even newbies. As far as the market goes, it allow metals to have divided value like coins but in a form that has practical use. beyond the possibility of gold/silver as coinage nuggets as a form of currency are extremely practical. You're just mad brodgar's investment into copper currency was killed by the implementation of nuggets.theTrav wrote:Nuggets are a PITA that I wish had not been implemented

What are you talking about? What did nuggets do to copper coinage? I'd still sell things for copper...
Surprise.

Re: A Universal Currency System
There was almost nothing worth less than 10 coins. Even with the largest unit being 100 people were tending to save their payouts until they were paid in bars.Peter wrote:What are you talking about? What did nuggets do to copper coinage? I'd still sell things for copper...
Now with nuggets the sole advantage of coins (divisibility) is reduced to zero. The only reason you'd use coins rather than nuggets is for aesthetic reasons (and for higher class metals like gold, silver and steel (possibly wrought)
