Hi all... I'm new to this game and I dont know anything about trading
Can anyone explain how to trade and what is the easiest (also fastest) way to do that.. Also I dont understand this point system (example : q115+ herbalist table - 250 points or 4 pearls) what points??
Right now I just take my chest and meet trader in front of my wallgate.. Usually this trader tries to kill me.. luckily im strong enough to protect myself
Points are just what they sound like. Since they're no practical in-game currency, traders assign things a point value, a price or value if you will. Thus, a quantity of item A is worth so many points, and will trade for item B, just like your example of pearls for a high quality herbalist table.
Trade with people with good reputations on the forums. You can trade with people that you have met in-game, but as you've seen, it does have its risks. When trading with villages, you'll need a village idol yourself. Make an alt to do the trading to protect yourself from this kind of asshattery. Smash the alt's hearth fire, or you can grind their agility really high so you have a lot of travel distance (not sure how much AgI is needed to port clear across the world, though). Give a hearth secret to the village's chieftain or lawspeaker so they can invite you to the village. You can now port to their village idol from anywhere in the world. The other village should do the same for delivering goods to you. After that, you never have to use that alt again OR you can invite that alt back into your village and bring them home.
For simple trades with locals, barter stands are nice, but there's some things they don't accept the last I checked. Also, they're not secure, so they can get stolen from, and in the current state of the world, there may be little recourse for punishing the offender.
Oh, one more thing: if you're concerned about someone porting in a murder character to your village during a trade, wall off your idol so that they can't leave the area. If they try sniping you with a bow, you can easily duck into a house and log off.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
1. If you do not have a village idol, you trade with your local neighbours
2. if you do have a village idol, a charachter with no hearth fire can idol jump from one village to another. so the trade has to go through the lawspeakers and chieftans of the towns trading. Normally for safety reasons, most villages do not trade items to their main town and isntead have some trade town that is used for trades.
for both cases, i would advise you never use your main charachter to deliver items, always use some kind of trade alt to drop items and pic up payments.
as for points, they generally relate to the points given to curios and items required by the person trading. so a flotsam might be 10 points, if ure buying an items thats worth 50 points then it would equal u paying 5 flotsams for it and so forth.

Most trades happen using Village idols. Lets say person 1 wants to trade with person 2
Person 1 makes a Alt and destroys its Hearth fire.
Person 2 invites the Alt to his party and then initiates him into their village.
Without his HF the Alt can warp to the village regardless of Travel sickness (the meter that goes up when you warp to any where)
The Alt drops of the Payment and picks up the trade item (or boat full of items)
Person 1 now invites the Alt to his party and then initiates him into their village.
The Alt can now warp back and deliver the goods.

Any not-so-obvious signs that newbies could benefit from about avoiding trading with murderers? From what I can tell all trade in this game is based simply on faith that the other person will uphold their end of the bargain?
Trade with people who have a good rep and a high post count in the forums. These people want to keep trading so screwing you over is not in their best interest.
Any of the large traders do a fairly high amount of business, and their reputation is crucial to people being willing to trade with them. Prices may be higher, might not, depends on the group. Any thread with a fairly high thread count of positive trade feedback is I'd say 99% trustworthy. And you use trade alts of course.
