well boat chases can involve ninja archery from time to time, i watched my friend die while in a boat this way, he decided against wearing decent armour, but oh well, i think anything more advanced than a smaller, faster boat for a single hearthling, perhaps a dugout canoe made from a singular log that degrades significantly faster than a rowboat, so i guess there's no real means to implement any more complex naval combat, unless there was a skill implemented called "YARRRR" giving you the ability to leap into an enemy ship, blade drawn and slice up some filthy land ratsmitchdevano wrote:I like the idea of there being a ton of island with a large body of water inbetween islands.
Perhaps there can be some sort of new water warfare!

like different countries.... ya, it adds a bigger dimension to the game. spies and traitors. it would also bee cool to have to have ships to be able to cross the "ocean". not some dainty canoe...hmmm makes my mind wander... piratesmitchdevano wrote:I like the idea of there being a ton of island with a large body of water inbetween islands.

Some tossed away stuff you don't need in the end, but, keep whats important and know who's your friend.

I was thinking more along the lines of cannons. I use to play graalonline Kingdoms which was basically what you were talking. And naval battles were pretty intense.hazzor wrote:well boat chases can involve ninja archery from time to time, i watched my friend die while in a boat this way, he decided against wearing decent armour, but oh well, i think anything more advanced than a smaller, faster boat for a single hearthling, perhaps a dugout canoe made from a singular log that degrades significantly faster than a rowboat, so i guess there's no real means to implement any more complex naval combat, unless there was a skill implemented called "YARRRR" giving you the ability to leap into an enemy ship, blade drawn and slice up some filthy land ratsmitchdevano wrote:I like the idea of there being a ton of island with a large body of water inbetween islands.

i was trying to stay the hell away from the concept of cannons, i think i meant to mention the fact that that kind of thing is edging on being medieval, which haven is not

Regarding a more continental world generation, I've been thinking the same thing since coming back to the game two days ago. As Hazzor said, the world gen at the moment comes up with something very much like a strange infinite and marshland almost devoid of any real landmarks or shape. I would love to see a world that added a tiny bit more geography to the game. Namely identifiable seas and oceans, and mountains that ran in ranges. It would really help people identify with the land and draw natural borders between territories. No longer would you describe your location as the "kingdom of grid reference 60,-36" but could instead say "the kingdom beyond the northern mountains and east of jimi hendrix bay". (assuming someone funky was put in charge of naming the bays :V)
This fictional map is a reasonable example of what I'm thinking.

This world map from Dwarf Fortress is a nice example of mountains running in ranges, which adds a good feeling of shape to the world.

Ideally those kinds of changes would also very much benefit from extra transport methods. Having larger boats such as primitive galleys or longships for practical group trade and travel (or raiding parties! :o ) to make use of these seas would be brilliant. Adding extra water depths such as "sea" or "ocean" and making it impossible for normal rafts and rowboats to cross these rougher waters (Like the Civ games) would make these large vessels quite special.

If mountain ranges were also added, it would likely have the side effect of limiting over land travel a fair bit instead by reducing quite how intricate the network of rivers normally is. Which would make that long desired addition of horses ever more relevant.
I realise it's all a rather ambitious thing to ask of the devs, but the thread was here, so I posted. Longships would be awesome ya?.

I constantly complain about the boating mechanics that are in the game in voice chat with friends. We joked last night that you should be able to shoot slings at peoples boats and poke holes in it so they'd have to use their bucket to get water out of their boat or they'd sinkhazzor wrote:well boat chases can involve ninja archery from time to time, i watched my friend die while in a boat this way, he decided against wearing decent armour, but oh well, i think anything more advanced than a smaller, faster boat for a single hearthling, perhaps a dugout canoe made from a singular log that degrades significantly faster than a rowboat, so i guess there's no real means to implement any more complex naval combat, unless there was a skill implemented called "YARRRR" giving you the ability to leap into an enemy ship, blade drawn and slice up some filthy land rats

lol, slings really can penetrate anything can't they, i made a point in a thread about castles and such about how they go through brick walls and retain enough power to kill a noob from 100 meters awaybmjclark wrote: I constantly complain about the boating mechanics that are in the game in voice chat with friends. Canoes would be awesome!
Also: new fishes like sharks, turtle, swordfish, whale... Which gives alot of food
there should also be litle tropical islands with coconut trees and pineapples (foragable) and a colourful butterfly (curio).
Growing coconut trees in your camp gives you sand spots
