You're assuming you can actually find a job that is benefited by the degree you have. The notion that you need college to succeed has saturated the job market with college graduates to the point where many are working a minimum wage job or have no job at all while trying to payback a huge amount of debt.
If you want to live a good, secure life, go to a trade school. Because of all the people wanting jobs that require degrees, there's a large demand for skilled labor. Michael Rowe is a huge supporter of this and you can find plenty of speeches by him on Youtube. In one testimony, Rowe references a conversation with Tom Vilsack, secretary of agriculture, who told him, "construction on a power plant had to be halted—not for lack of funds or support. They didn’t have enough qualified welders."
College used to be for people who wanted to advance themselves in a certain study, but it's turned into a necessity that really undermines the whole point of going to college. I say go if you love science, history, or any other study, but if you're only thinking of going because you have to, or for friends, or your family is making you, then don't. You can live comfortably on $30,000 a year or even on minimum wage if you budget correctly. Or you can go to a trade school for a year or two for less than what it takes to go to a university for a semester and bump that up to a reasonable $40,000 or $60,000.

I'm not against college, but it isn't for everyone.

Re: Go To College
That might have been true 50 years ago. Welcome to the present though, many people have already explained to you what's going on these days.TheTylerLee wrote:The Longer you go to college, the less you have to work, and the more money you get paid
The less you go to college, the less money you get, and the harder your work is
(not counting jobs like Rocket scientists)
Discuss or /thread ,,, either way i just had to inform the young un's
Also, define "harder". Is the work of a doctor or someone responsible for the entire staff of a company really easier than of the guy hauling bricks the entire day?

Re: Go To College
man are you completely oblivious to the how the world actually works? It's all about who you know. I have friends who have never spent a day in college since they left high school and because they know someone already affiliated with a fast growing industry, they already have work experience in that field and make some pretty decent cash money. Probably more than your dumb college ass gets.TheTylerLee wrote: i agree it isn't for everyone , some people have to do our minimum wage jobs =]
Don't get me wrong, school is important, but like Onionfighter said it's not for everyone. Or rather not everyone needs to be force fed useless information for a useless degree that gets them a shitty 30k a year job for half their life.

Re: Go To College
Did anyone else find it funny that he bashes Philosophy majors, yet he's a Psychology buff? Yeah dude, good luck on getting that nice paying job. Your mayjor is even more of a joke, because you folks actually think you'll even GET jobs that are related.
Edit: Also, College is a scam, go to Community College on the go'ment's dollar, get the same education, then spend a year at a nice UC, and be able to say you're an alumni, get mad bitches and still get a job that has nothing to do with your major.

Well I go to University and it isn't as simple as that, that is just the expectation. University is EXTREMELY hard! IT IS REALLY HARD! So it isn't as simple as that.

No offence to anyone who is a philosophy major , but you really shoulda chose a different career xD
You demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of the point of college/university. Business degrees are the joke and an oxymoron to boot, you enter academia to be an academic (the clue is in the word).
EDIT: Zampfeo knows what he's talking about.
