With them being rare, at the 100% chance you may find 1 after going to 10 different lakes for hours, and one day you may get on the water for 5 mins and find 10. Just depends on your luck I suppose.

They're not rare. They're actually fairly common. However, with the spawn mechanics, the odds of finding one goes from fair to almost nothing.

In case you don't know what the spawn mechanics are: Items on the map that are random--animals, bugs, forageables--are created when a section of map (known as a minimap, 100x100 in size) is loaded. No new objects spawn on that map section until it unloads and is loaded again later. In order for a map section to unload from the server, it needs to be "empty" for about 15-20 minutes.

No players entering the area for that period of time. It has to remain empty.

I started to see them about once every boat trip (i trip for at least 30 mins every time) at about pe of 200. I'm over 300 now and I seem to see them about as often.

They are very rare, but a very nice treat when you do see one.
