Is there any *practical* use for high quality stone? I suppose you can make a better stone axe, which might be useful for mining at the very start of a world. But beyond that...?

Mining at the later end of the world too. It's easier to get higher quality stone than it is to get higher quality metal bars.

What happens to abandon villages and claims? WIll they stay forever or get deleted afther a longer time if the owner is not logging in for a long time?

Claims and their property will stay around forever until a village claim declaims them.
Village claims will eventually run out of authority and begin to decay. Vclaims with no authority can be destroyed.

Nothing is automatically deleted.

A high quality axe is also good for butchering. The quality of the meat gathered from a deer, bear, boar, or troll can be greatly reduced if you have a low quality cutting tool.
