how did I die

I kept my key alt building in my lawn and went to the restroom. When I come back, I found my key alt died. I logged in my main character and found no scents, no blood, no other people. My key alt had 100+ HHP, no leeches, wore shoes and is hungry when I went to the restroom. I want to know how my key alt died.

People with extremly high stats leave scent. They were ninja's.

Enter and exit the house multiple times. It resets what you see and don't see. You'll eventually see any scents there, though chances are if it takes more than a few times to see the scents you'll not be able to effectively track them.

Chance to see scents compares your Per*Exp vs perps Int*Stealth. When there's a large difference, it drops to well under 10% (and likely even lower).

Lesson: never afk anywhere where someone can see you.

If one is killed, how long will the blood last? If I log in with another character, will the blood disappear?

murder scents persist for about 9 real days (it's a bit more than that; check the wiki). Other scents last shorter periods down to about 8 real hours for trespassing.

I mean the blood effect when one is hit, not the scents.

The blood itself persists about as long as other items left laying around.

Blood decays very rapidly, much faster than items decay. Always had problems with that when making blood pentagrams with freshly skinned kills; the blood would up and disappear after only minutes had passed.

Did you have a wall of any kind protecting you? I know you said it was your keyalt that died but for all I know you meant that it was a future keyalt after you finished your wall. If you do have one, then you were probably killed by a ranged player or an animal within your wall, as they can spawn if you have not claimed your entire area yet.
