Re: The Official Dwarf Fortress Thread
what are you supposed to do with the eleven trillion rocks that end up lying around in your fort, make enormous stockpiles (in itself creating more rocks)or make vast walls in a desperate attempt to use them?
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

Quantum stock pile
Make zone for gabage (only has to be 1 tile)
Its either q or k and you can go over to rocks and press D to dump
Do this fo all the rocks but dont over occupy them with hauling
When you want them back delete the zone and reclaim them with the same kind of method you used to dump

Re: The Official Dwarf Fortress Thread
Many people utilize garbage disposals to get rid of the rocks as it is inevitable that you get way too much. A garbage disposal is a dump zone on a bridge that retracts and drops the stone into the lava. Draw bridges also work as when they lower, they crush whatever is underneath them as long as it's not mighty enough to deconstruct the bridge.

Re: The Official Dwarf Fortress Thread
I'm able to create an efficient enough fortress that I often have labour to spare. Spamming and boxing rock crafts isn't a bad way to generate trade value and deal with the rocks. At least you don't have to manually toggle them for hauling that way.TeckXKnight wrote:Many people utilize garbage disposals to get rid of the rocks as it is inevitable that you get way too much. I liked to build elaborate outdoor cathedrals and castles with all the excess stone. Or coffins. You can never have too many coffins in Dwarf Fortress.hazzor wrote:what are you supposed to do with the eleven trillion rocks that end up lying around in your fort, make enormous stockpiles (in itself creating more rocks)or make vast walls in a desperate attempt to use them?
There used to be a utility program called Rubless that let you destroy all non-flux extraneous stone, but I'm not sure if it is compatible with the current version.

I just quantum pile and reclaim for stone crafts

Yeah, you can have too many coffins. Coffins are useless when all your dorfs are dead from a goblin siege because they spent all their time making coffins instead of training for the army.WarpedWiseMan wrote:Or coffins. You can never have too many coffins in Dwarf Fortress.
Hazzor:
To mass dump rocks: (d)esignate->set (b)uilding/item properties->(d)ump
After your dwarves get done with all the hauling: (d)->(b)->(c)laim your single tile garbage dump. Feel free to move it around where you need the stone at. I tend to use larger stockpiles near my workshops instead of doing this, but it's useful for places where you don't have much room.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Re: The Official Dwarf Fortress Thread
Hauling jobs for stones are a waste of dwarfs and FPS. Use DFHack and use the DUMP function to quantum store every extra stone until a use is needed.

Re: The Official Dwarf Fortress Thread
The next version will include wheelbarrows and the gathering of multiple items by a single dwarf. Hopefully that will speed up hauling jobs a lot so that the player does not have to resort to mods anymore to get the job done in an acceptable amount of time (which is of course still fine though if the player choses to do so).
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.
See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.

Just thought I'd say you can update to .07 without any problems, just download latest release and transfer your saves to that folder.MagicManICT wrote:I've stuck with .34.06 so far. There are only a few minor (what I consider minor) bug fixes in .07 that are relatively avoidable, anyway.
