Nah, just Death or Glory and punch spam. Slide + oak stance to recover defense. Oppo knocks for getting their defense down.

The incentive for them to chase you is that if they let you sit too long, your pelting them with sling stones (another great craft-stop item, the rock lobster btw) or arrows. Let me tell ya, I know this first hand ;D

About the Balls of Steel - same thing works when you try to Fast Travel, so you can set a Travel to HF button on your hotbar and use it without the need of carrying something craftable.

Reinforcements can sometimes be a
factor to watch out for =o Especially
when facing high tier fighters, you
may not know if they're only there to
stall you or what, you should kill them
as quickly as possible... or run like the
others are already there
