Have you ever dropped something on a city? Then try to pick it up but can't. I say that ownership is implemented with the ability to claim something as yours. There are 2 ways this can happen.
1. You make the item.
2. The previous owner agrees you are the new owner.
You can't claim ownership when you steal something, but you can use the item just like the previous owner. The owner can pick up that item on anybodies claim or town. They can do anything they want with that item on someone's claim or town. They can not prevent someone from stealing the item if it is not on their claim. They can not prevent someone who steals something from their claim.

Re: Ownership
Sounds interesting. How would you transfer ownership, LRclick in the manner of gauze?

Re: Ownership
I am not at all convinced. That sounds like a system bound to grow beyond all imagination and generate edge cases faster than you can say "O(n!)". The current system may have its flaws (some of which should be corrected), but at least it's rather simple.

Re: Ownership
The current system has some interesting scenarios:
- When disembarking from ships onto foreign claims, sometimes I can get back on and sometimes not.
- One time someone pulled my cart onto their village claim when I was standing nearby it.

Re: Ownership
I'd argue that's mostly a problem with the boats not requiring explicit trespassing when crossing a claim, like walking does. But yes, there seems to be some bug involved as well; as long as you were the last to row the boat, it should always be possible to get back on. I haven't managed to reproduce the bug yet, however.Jackard wrote:When disembarking from ships onto foreign claims, sometimes I can get back on and sometimes not.
While that is, indeed, one of the funny situations that the current system gives rise to, I would argue that it isn't exactly game-breaking. And that it isn't entirely unreasonable either, actually -- you were close to their territory, so they used their dominance in the area to claim the stuff you didn't close enough watch on. It can be argued both ways. Either way, I cannot bring myself to see it as such a large problem that it warrants replacing the entire system with something bound to become orders of magnitude more complex.Jackard wrote:One time someone pulled my cart onto their village claim when I was standing nearby it.
EDIT: There are greater flaws in the system as it is. I'd consider one of the greatest to be the aspect that gives rise to such situations as being unable to pick up something you dropped from your inventory while in someone's village, especially seeing how one isn't warned when walking into a village. Such things should and most likely will be altered in one way or another. I'm just not sure exactly how yet.

Re: Ownership
I don't need a big fancy system. I Just want a way to get my items back when I accidentally drop them on someones town or claim.

Re: Ownership
Uhm...maybe you could allow a Lawspeaker (or an assistant created for this purpose) to "claim" items for the village, with an apposite command in the government function. Doing so, items in the authority range can be claimed/declaimed by the village, like the actual system implicitely does. On the other way, people who don't belong to the village can take their items in and off the village, since they aren't naturally claimed. You could also allow to see what items are claimed in the village by using the "show village" button. Of course, a lawspeaker (or an assistant) could claim your items anyway, since the represent the law in the village (but it could ruin the reputation of the village).
By the way, the assistants lawspeakers could also have other uses (they could grant access to the village but not exile anyone, for example);
This would also allow the trade of built liftable items within the village, by the way, since you only need an assistant to be present at the moment of the trade to declaim the item (that is perfectly logic, since if you sell it to other people, it doesn't belong anymore to the village).

Re: Ownership
How about this? If you drop something on a city claim, you get two minutes to pick it back up(only you). Otherwise it's claimed. That could work semi efficiently..
