Well, i was swimming across a river with full stamina(99%) and 28 con the river was 19 tiles and i drown
RoB was wrong

Drowning (running out of stamina while in deep water) will instantly kill your character, additionally leaving no corpse to retrieve items from. It is highly advisable to not even buy swimming until much later. Some constitution is advised (upwards of 30) merely for crossing rivers. The best way to test swimming capabilities is by equipping a Silver for the Ferryman, saving your character in case of drowning.

You cannot quick-travel while swimming, meaning the only safe exit would be by resurfacing (by shallow water, or boat). You also cannot lift objects or drink to restore stamina while swimming.

But if you are already drinking water when you begin swimming, you will continue to drink, this technique is risky as it requires you to begin swimming with less than full stamina and for you to click move only once, but can be used to swim longer than you normally would.

A character with 10 constitution and a full stamina bar, can only cross 10 tiles safely before drowning.
