how do i find people?

i have only just started but i feel so alone in the game world. i have yet to come across a single person. and it says i am alone in this world. am i doing something worng?

Prolly you're not doing wrong...
It says you're alone in this worls because you haven't kinned anyone yet. Which prolly is the case as you haven't met anyone to kin yet.
Have a look at D&T forums viewforum.php?f=31 - some ppl also look for friends to kin and chat ingame

do you have to kin with someone to meet them ingame?

No. But you have to Kin them in order to know who they are without them telling you. Or vice versa.

To kin means to add someone to your friends list 
If you dont add them to your secret friends list you wont even know their nickames - you will see a player but no name hovering over his body.
So yea

bleh. i have been wandering about for what seems like hours now. and still not a soul in sight. this game just feels like a ghost town

It will vary on the day of the week, time of day, your location, and your method of travel. Keep in mind that HnH is a global game so there will be lots of people in vastly different time zones than you.
Worst case scenario? Enjoy the serenity of being alone. There are plenty of people who claim to be ready to pay an arm and a leg for such a privilege. You will meet up with others one way or another, I am sure. =)

You just don't seem to grasp how humungous the world is. There are people out there all right, but you probably wont be too happy when you meet them lol.
