Re: Practical use for authority: deletion
If you dislike singularities, just make the deletion process take some time, just really speeded up compared to normal destruction.
What if Rosa Parks had a car?

Re: Practical use for authority: deletion
So make it so that it can't be done on claims unless the chieftain/lawspeaker in question has access. That way you'd have to revoke the privilege first, which is far from trivial with a new village and a large claim.Potjeh wrote:If your claim isn't on village grounds, everything you built can be deleted with zero effort, other than building an idol (which isn't hard at all). I don't think players should be forced to live in villages. Sure, it's vulnerable as it is, but right now it at least requires effort to destroy stuff.Jackard wrote:uh how is that abuse

if your claim isn't on village grounds right now, everything you built can be owned by someone else with zero effort. Exactly the same deal.Potjeh wrote:If your claim isn't on village grounds, everything you built can be deleted with zero effort,
How is revoke the claim less trivial? The only difference I can think of would be authority cost, which has not been specified for object deletion, so I don't see how you can make any comparison.Vanigo wrote:So make it so that it can't be done on claims unless the chieftain/lawspeaker in question has access. Re: Practical use for authority: deletion
Revoking claims costs quite a bit of authority. For a good-sized claim, it costs more authority than a village totem alone can generate. The would-be griefer would have to set up a village and a bunch of banners, and then wait a day or two.theTrav wrote:How is revoke the claim less trivial? So? Adding a very expensive first step still makes things a whole lot harder, no matter what the relative costs are. Nothing that involves waiting multiple RL days for authority to generate can be described as trivial.theTrav wrote:Emphasis mineVanigo wrote:Revoking claims costs quite a bit of authority.theTrav wrote:The only difference I can think of would be authority cost, which has not been specified for object deletion, so I don't see how you can make any comparison.

Re: Practical use for authority: deletion
Are people really afraid of a griefer grinding five characters to lawspeaking or whatever, building a town totem (next to your plot without your awareness)
Building several authority objects, the easiest of which requires rolls of linen and trees, and then wait several days for the authority to collect. THEN walk over and start tearing down your possessions, and after having ground themselves to the poin where they are likely to fight you? Seriously? The people who's idea of a fun time is to break into places and cut down trees while naked and giggling like an idiot?
I think that as it is planned already is perfectly safe and I highly doubt that even the most determined griefer could put this to use. The only way I expect to see this used is to actively combat griefers who seal gates and such.

Surprise.

Making a village all by yourself can be accomplished in one day.

Re: Practical use for authority: deletion
Authority takes time to accumulate no matter how fast your village is built up, and if the cost to delete is high then the defender will have time to call for help / move their stuff / solve the issue.Potjeh wrote:Making a village all by yourself can be accomplished in one day.
Regardless, the potential to grief people with villages ALREADY EXISTS so I don't see how this makes it any worse.
