How to Achieve a Balanced Diet

I've been scavenging the woods for quite some time. My diet has become quite biased towards increasing my intelligence and agility.
I'm too afraid to begin building a homestead, as I'm quite weak and this is my first time playing. Any tips on how to achieve a balanced diet that improves all of my attributes evenly whilst keeping me safe?

Begin hunting to build Strength, Constitution, and Perception. Unless you're a crafter you don't need DEX, PSY, or CHA.

Bear and Boar meat is excellent for STR.
Deer Meat for PER.
Aurochsen for CON.

Hunting it is, I suppose.. though it'll be some time before I can kill a bear, especially by myself. Are there any open markets that are safe for a lone wolf to visit and trade my wares?

It will be difficult without a village idol. If you can make friends with villages in your region then you'd have a lot of options -- perhaps even a trading partner.

If you're confident that you can kill them if they try anything, then knocking is fine. Failing that try to leave a runestone with a way to contact you. Usually a hearth secret so that they can add you. Alternatively use the forums to try to contact a village.

Find the name of their village, head to In Congress Assembled, and then post asking to speak to them. Stepping onto a village claim will tell you its name.
