1. You can choose which obelisk to start at when you create a human character. Monsters spawn at random locations.
2. Zones are ordered in a list of 'activity'. A zone will only disappear if there is no activity in it, and the playerbase has decreased.
3. Everyone is allowed to create hirelings at an obelisk. At this time, the keeper's only special abilities are to modify the zone itself. We may add additional perks in the future.

Re: Topia Online -> Inspired by Haven & Hearth
Okay tempwad, I have created a new 'Sandbox' section on the website so that you can test the game engine in your browser. It currently is only built for Firefox and Chrome. Make sure you have the latest version.
Note: It is using the slow non-WebGL renderer, and I am still able to get 500 animated humans running well in Chrome. Moreover, the sandbox is running an 'emulated server' which is using almost 50% of the browser's processing power. So basically, once you are playing the real game client, it is capable of rendering 1000+ creatures on the screen without any lag.
Now ... on that note, it is worth saying that there will probably never be more than 100 things on the screen at once. Therefore, I feel that everyone should be able to enjoy 60 FPS no matter where they are in the game world.
The WebGL client supports dynamic shadows, lighting, filters, particle effects, etc at lighting fast framerates.

I just deployed some additional fixes. Do you have the latest version of Chrome? I am able to get 40 FPS in Chrome atm. But I also have a pretty strong PC/GPU, and I am not running any other applications.

btw, 500 is a very average number. it is number of carrots on the ground, when i replanting my round field.
upd:
tried, didn't saw difference between 50 and 500. show me 500 on screen please.

Re: Topia Online -> Inspired by Haven & Hearth
Carrots on the screen are a lot different than animated humans that are wandering on the screen! Almost an unlimited number of static options can be rendered. I will work on a demo which draws static objects to the screen if you want.
Here are some more things to consider:
1. In the sandbox, the game server is literally running inside your browser, which consumes 50% of the processing. Web browsers are not meant to be used as servers, but it's the only way I could create an offline sandbox. When you play the live game, the browser will only need to worry about rendering.
2. The game is much better optimized for Chrome at the moment. If you try it with Chrome I expect you will get much better results!
3. The rendering engine in the sandbox is not taking advantage of WebGL. WebGL is literally 3 times faster than the HTML5 canvas method im using for the sandbox. See these benchmarks: https://www.scirra.com/blog/58/html5-2d ... e-analysis
4. The game is still early and the engine will continue to be optimized for speed. Please consider that this is cutting edge technology and no real MMORPG has ever been built with HTML5.

I've updated the sandbox, can you try it now and let me know the performance?
