The whole point with crime is that while the potential rewards are large, so are the potential losses. If you didn't want to risk loosing your characters, you should have gone farming or hunting.
You might as well at this point. Reincarnate and head out to the wilderness. You're probably in better shape than most newbies, since you probably have thousands of LP from the black skills.
If you really want to prove yourselves "good" then just act good and if you are eventually you'll be accepted for trades and not shot on sight.
