How long lasts a bear corpse? Can i do anything for making the corpse last longer? I could kill it for high level players but i fear it dissapears too soon

Do i only need Lawspeaking to take over a village that no one has been active in for a while? From what i read on the wiki i thought once auth got below a certain point anyone with Ls could right click the idol and become LS.(also it says you don't need to be near it, just on screen).

Just asking because there is an abandoned one i'd like to use for trading.
