Here's some food ideas:

For the rats you'd just have to right click and pick them up. Live rats are a hearty meal. For the chicken, I think it would be great, especially because chickens are currently just annoying. If they yielded some sort of meat, I believe many people would be very happy. Personally, I think the ideal goods from a chicken would be something like 1 chicken meat, 1 intestines, 1-2 feathers, and 1 bone material. The feathers would be used to make, for example, a quill to go with the parchment and make actual books or something.

Anyways, those're some ideas off the top of my head. Feel free to add more food ideas to my post, or completely ignore me, whatever works for you. >_>;;

Mushrooms already exist, so why not eat them?

Frogs could be eaten.

I am not sure if leaches would be healthy to eat.

Tons of stuff could be made with Rice! Rice would be the ideal plant for water, hands down.

I want spices!!!!

spices could change the FEP slightly, for example if you add dried hot peppers youd get +2 const (its painful but if you can stand it you get stronger^^)
or from garlic youd get charisma

also, salt would be very cool, like when decay is finally implemented, you could salt fish and raw meat to keep it fresh longer.
the salt would be taken from the ocean (that would be implemented with the new map-gen) by filling tanning tubs and letting them stay in the sun.
