Do we want ths to change so we can exchange wares easier? So we wouldnt have to exchange wares? Or would this ruin the game? Could someone in theory make as much gold coins as they wish?
It's because only metalmakers can make coins, unlike in Salem where everyone can (by selling) get coins.
Pearls, however, can be gotten by every sane person who has a forager in his base, which is everyone.
Not everyone has metals.
Also, pearls are infinite, coins aren't.
Basically: Pearls instead of an actual value, have a value called "time and effort", instead of metal which is limited.
In Salem, crickets spawned everywhere and getting silver was also time and effort and unlimited,
that is why I think Salem's silver = sort of like pearls.
And it will probably stay that way .

Well, the metal makers could buy stuff for coins. Then those who sold to the metal makers use the coins to buy other stuff. The money then will diffuse out to everyone. The system does not require that everyone make metals. Since the coins exist, I assume the devs intended a use for it.

Your "since it exists there's a use" makes no sense. There's a druid cloak, no use for it.
Anyway, metal makers would have the advantage because they both get metals AND money.
Others have to lose something to get money.
Think about my post.
Pearls are the shit.
Also, stuff like shocked frogs. Epic currency.

-snip-
This argument makes no sense - Druid cloak is not ingame item - it's a special item given by the Devs

With such posts you're just irritating lesser experienced players...

There are enough discussions about coins already - use search function

Okay then wrong example. There's a rattle-tattle talisman, still no use for it. Just like coins.

things have value in hnh based on their actual usefulness, a gold coin is a waste of gold, because you can't make anything gold out of it, traders predominantly in curios because they can actually use them, accumulating useless gold coins would just be stupid
Not very true. Gold coins would also be useful as you can pay with GOLD. Gold is always welcome anywhere. You can use gold for many things and most of those things are very useful and valuable. Having gold coins means you just split gold nuggets into smaller units of gold. So I think gold and silver coins would be useful and I will try to make use of them this world. If you have silver or gold you will be able to pay with them as well as curios.

People do it; with gold nuggets.

The primary issue is that they are no more space efficient than bars. And since most metals don't have a high value density it's an inefficient and bulky currency. The metals that are space efficient (silver/gold) however are too valuable to use as a currency since their intrinsic value is so high.

Solution: Allow coins to stack further than 100. Coinpurse or whatever. This would give currency the value density required to be a useful currency per inv slot.

A man leaves for one moth to take care of an old parent and you up and reset the world, very cool.
