Hey guys, I don't know where to post this nor do I know if it has already been posted before.
Today I have made Q21 Hardened Leather and found the exact formula used to make it.
First off, here are the Qualities of Items/Objects used, and also the skills.
Leather: Q82
Wax: Q10
Coaldron: Q25
Water: Q40
Fuel: Q41
Dex : 15
Sewing: 1
And here is the formula.
First, take the Qualities of the Leather and Wax and Calculate it like this...
((82*3)+(10*2))/5 the answer is 53.2, rounded down is 53.
Then you take the Qualities of the Coaldron, Water, Fuel and the result of the Leather and Wax which is 53, and calculate it like this...
(25+40+41+53)/4 the answer is 39.75, rounded down is 39.
Then you take your skills and calculate it like this...
SQRT(15*1) the answer is 3.87, rounded down is 3.
Then you take the results you got(that being 39 and 3) and calculate it like this...
(39+3)/2 the answer is 21!
Please test it for yourself and verify it.
NOTE: If your sqrt(Dex*Sew) is higher than the end Q of all stuff calculated together, you don't have to do the last step, its the "softcap".
Kind Regards

I'll test it. Just a moment.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
fuel quality doesn't matter in any cauldron recipe

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
If the fuel doesn't matter, then there's something wrong there. Maybe just divide by 3 and ignore the fuel quality? It will give the same result for the example he gave.sabinati wrote:fuel quality doesn't matter in any cauldron recipe
Also, I don't know my cauldron quality, and I'm not it the mood of crafting other right now. So I'll pass testing it.

Maybe that is the case, Will do some extensive testing and come with the answer.kurodp3 wrote:Maybe just divide by 3 and ignore the fuel quality? It will give the same result for the example he gave.
If someone else could also test it, it would be nice to get more that one result.

Colouring is a nice touch, but light coloured letters against a light brown background are very straining on the eyes.

tested with diffrent leather and wax combinations:

I'd say that formula works.

If its not completely accurate, its quite close.wiatrak wrote:http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Talk:Hardened_Leather

It should be noted that the Hardened Leather is softcapped by sewing*dex.
It would appear that the (qLeather+qWax/2) is softcapped by sew*dex before it gets used in the rest of the formula.
Sample data (all using Q33 cauldron, Q60 water):
qLeather 42, qWax 31,28 (29) = 25 --(17 Dex 1 Sew)
qLeather 42, qWax 35,22 (28) = 29 --(17 Dex 10 Sew)
qLeather 42, qWax 19 = 27 --(17 Dex 10 Sew)
qLeather 42, qWax 19 = 32 --(17 Dex 40 Sew)

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
Some more data:
Leather: q31 x3,
Wax: q21 x2
Water: q38 (q19 after halving)
Cauldron: Clay (no idea what Q it is, but somewhere around 20-25 if it matters)
Fuel (if it matters): q10
----------------
Hardened Leather: q21
Leather: q31, 31, 29
Wax: q21, 20
Water: q38 (q19 after halving)
Cauldron: Clay (no idea what Q it is, but somewhere around 20-25 if it matters)
Fuel (if it matters): q10
----------------
Hardened Leather: q20
Sew, Dex both 30
Since when did cauldron quality matter, or is it just for this one recipe that it matters? My understanding was that cauldron quality never mattered, only whether it was clay (halves water Q) or metal. If cauldron quality does matter, it wouldn't be hard to test simply by checking with some scrap metal and some good metal. (This may be some old research that I just haven't dug up before.)
Even if I figure the clay cauldron at Q0, then the formula posted above is wrong. I should have gotten q24 leather instead of q21. If cauldron quality does matter and I figure in half the quality of my cauldron and water, then the result quality goes up by a few points. Any formula that is going to work will work no matter what kind of cauldron it is as long as you figure for cauldron mechanics properly. OP is flat wrong. We need more data to get a working formula for this.
Note that I do get definite results for the weight ratio of 1:3 leather:wax used and not figuring in anything other than the quality of water (halved for a clay cauldron). If anyone can come up with definite data that the cauldron quality is actually figured into this, I'll believe it. Until then, I'll go with the old wisdom of clay only halving quality and metal maintaining full quality.
follow up: ok, after checking against SparkyPD's numbers, they all point to the 1:3 ratio except the last set. It's off by a couple points for some reason. The numbers say it should be 34 instead of 32. The others are all correct.
formula I used: ( (avg leather + avg wax * 3) /4 + water ) / 2 softcapped by sqrt(sewing *dex)
Leather: q31 x3,
Wax: q21 x2
Water: q38 (q19 after halving)
Cauldron: Clay (no idea what Q it is, but somewhere around 20-25 if it matters)
Fuel (if it matters): q10

Hardened Leather: q21

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
I'll do some testing with q10 water q10 metal cauldron. Clay adds in some unknown variables since we're not entirely sure what it does.
